With my birthday smack in the middle of the holiday dessert coma, I decided this year to have a cake that was healthy, but also really yummy. … more

When my son Tristan was a baby we went over to my husband’s professor’s house for their Thanksgiving dinner. Their home sat on several acres with a barn, a green house, and a couple of ponds. It was beautiful at their home in the country in North Carolina. The house was a quaint old two-story home with lots of detail and cracks running up the walls that silently told the… more

I love this time of year and this past week my kids and I took a field trip to a pumpkin farm. We were with a local group of other homeschoolers and it was fun to see my children so excited about pumpkins. They had a hay bale maze set up with ladders, and slides I thought I would never get my son out of the maze. He loves mazes… more

I love bananas and I love sushi! When I saw this cute banana sushi pin on Pinterest, I got excited, until I clicked through to the recipe and saw they used wheat bread. We eat gluten free as a family for my son Tristan and gluten free bread does not and would not wrap around a banana like wheat bread does. I tried to make some banana sushi using rice tortillas,… more

I am not a big fan of sweets, but there is nothing I love better than a tall glass of milk and a really chewy, moist, and yummy cookie. To me the perfect cookie must have chocolate chips and a nice subtle flavor. The other day my son Tristan asked me to make some cookies, and I love to bake and make fun treats with my kids, so I did.… more

Peach season is in full swing here in Maryland and I love it. Maryland has some of the best peaches I ever tasted. The peaches are large and oh, so sweet and perfect for homemade ice cream and other wonderful treats. I am busy canning peaches, and I figured why not make my family some no sugar peach ice cream. It was simple to do, and the end result was fabulous. Ingredients:… more

I love summer because of all the fresh fruit available around where I live. We have picked fruit at farms or at my hubby’s place of work for the past four weekends. I have about 20 pounds of blueberries already frozen, 25 quarts of peaches canned, 24 half-pints of plum jam and 21 quarts of canned plums, and 26 half-pints of strawberry jam made as well. Blackberries are coming on… more

I love being a mom and having kids for a number of reasons. The hugs, kisses, and cuddles are a treat. I get to make fun crafts and play outside with the water table and in our homemade sprinkler. What I love most about having kids is creating fun, colorful and delicious healthy snacks. As a child I loved popsicles, but most popsicles are full of colors,… more

This past weekend I noticed the cherries on my one cherry tree were ready for picking. The cherries were a beautiful bright red and the flavor a perfect blend of sweet and sour. I picked cherries as I watched my children swing and slide on their play set. It was a beautiful day and one I will not forget because as I picked my last bowl full of cherries the… more

My husband and I were newly weds when we purchased our first home a quaint little ranch with a lot of old charm nestled in the beautiful State of Maine. This house was in dire need of some TLC and we were the couple to do it. We both were newbies when it came to home improvement, but we would work hard and figure it all out along the way.… more

This past February my kids and I went to a play date with lots of other mama’s and their kiddos. The play date started inside with kids playing with musical instruments, dolls, and blocks. The hostess made delicious fruit and veggie smoothies for all of us to drink and other mom’s brought snacks. Seasonally, it was an unusually warm morning with temperatures already into the high 60′s. We collectively rounded up… more

Have you heard about the new cake phenomenon called “cake pops“, created by Bakerella.com? I was intrigued by these round, candy-coated cake balls, and thought how hard can they really be to make. I googled how to make cake pops and watched the video by Bakerella, and then went shopping at my local Walmart. The cake pops did not look difficult to make, and I was sure I could even… more

“Hello Grandma! I saw an elevator today, we pushed buttons!” said Tristan as he held two bananas to his ears. Yes, bananas are a hit in this household, and go fast. Bananas are fun to eat, and can be great telephones to talk to our grandmas and grandpas with too. One of the first foods my son Tristan fell in love with was bananas.
