If you have children, then you likely dealt with nighttime pee pee accidents. I recently discovered a great way on how to get pee stains out of a mattress. My son had peed in his toddler bed earlier this week and laundry piled up because of sickness in my house. We have an extra twin-sized bed we usually only use for guests, but I let my son sleep in this bed for a couple of nights because his bedding was still nasty. Yesterday, I pulled off the sheets to wash them, and to my dismay he also peed on the brand new mattress. I was disgusted I had not previously noticed it and I was upset because mattresses are expensive. So, I googled and found a lot of helpful advice, but most used harsh chemicals like pet pee sprays, or some even suggested throwing some Borax on the mattress. I was not comfortable with putting either on, because chemicals like Borax, while a good washing agents, could be toxic. I found a question and answer forum on ThriftyFun.com where a man from the United Kingdom asked the question of how to remove pee stains from a mattress. Someone named Jessica suggested using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and baking soda which seemed to simple, but it works!

Getting Started:
You need a measuring cup, tablespoon, funnel, and spray bottle.
8 ounces/237 ml hydrogen peroxide 3% (this can be found in a brown bottle in the first aid aisle of most pharmacies or stores)
3 tablespoons/14.29 grams of baking soda
1 drop of liquid hand dish washing soap
Mix all ingredients into the spray bottle and use within 20 minutes. Do not attempt to store the leftover solution. because it will leak out of the bottle. The mixture only works if you use it immediately, because the cleaning byproducts are active for only a short time period. You should see the stain lift and disappear within 5-10 minutes. Once the mattress dries, if a baking soda film remains, then simply wipe or vacuum it off. Reports I read also indicate this method works well for pet urine stains, but I have not tested it yet in this capacity.

It is simple, safe and works great! If your kids are like mine they usually have an army of stuffed animals in bed with them. Here are my tips to wash the pee and grime safely off your stuffed animals and make them look and smell like new again.

Wow! That mattress looks like new! This is valuable information, for sure!
I thought for sure the mattress was ruined and I did not want to use harsh chemicals since people sleep on it. I could not believe how good this worked and I had a friend try it on dog pee and said it worked for her too. Hope you never have to use it on a bed, but I am going to try it on other stains in my house.
Thanks for stopping by Libby.

Amee – I cannot thank you enough for this information. We recently had a friend of ours visit for the weekend, and he is a patient at a nursing home. Long story short, he had an accident and the mattress looked ready to take to the facility that handles disposal of large things. He was so upset and embarrassed and my heart just ached for him. My heart also ached for me because I just didn’t have the money right now to go and buy a new mattress.
I said my prayers, turned on my computer, went to Google and found you. I could not believe that I actually saw the stain dissipate right before my eyes. The funny thing (NOW) is that I was in Dollar Tree last week and just happened to pick up a bottle of peroxide. I don’t know why, but I just bought it.
Thank you again, Amee, for this wonderful information that you so kindly shared. You’re an angel!!!!
Hi Marilyn,
Gosh you made me blush thank you so much and you are welcome!
Hugs,

Hi amee, today im going to try the method you given. Ive search and try every thing, from clorox to oxi clean my mattress still didnt come clean..Now im trying your method…will let you see the rusults when finished…Thanks a concerned mom….
Absolutely fabulous results. Thank Yoy
Hi Greg,
You are welcome glad it worked for you!
Amee
Does anyone know if this is safe to use on a memory foam mattress?
Hi Leah,
I have never tried it on a memory foam mattress, but you could always test a small area to see if it works. I would think it would.
Amee
I was surprised to see this and it is excellent for the stains, but I prize it even more as a bathwash for my dogs that get sprayed by a skunk.
It does take out the skunk smell. I then top the bath off with a light conditioner or some Skin So soft oil.
Hi Donna,
Yeah lots of folks have told me they have used it on their sprayed animals.
Amee
Absolutely amazing! I have a brand new mattress and a young one who had an accident on it – I’m so happy the stain is gone!!! Yay! Thank you!!!
Hi Mary,
Yeah glad it worked.
Amee
Didn’t work for me but it was worth a try! Thank you for your post!
Hi Cheryl,
Sorry to hear about that depending on the stain it sometimes takes a couple treatments. Amee
I Could not believe how efficent this was!!! I am soooooo excited!! I honestly didn’t think it would work this well… But I am in shock for real! Who thinks of this stuff lol
Aloha all,
I just tried this on my white mattress 10 minutes ago and the matress immediately turned light tan wherever I sprayed… Will this color go away as it dries? I hope so because right now it looks worse than when I started. Keeping my fingers crossed X
Hi Sue,
Never heard of this happening, but not sure what your mattress is made of. Hope the it got better! Amee
Can’t believe this works! Tried it three times (letting it dry in between) and the third time is the charm! Each time
it got lighter and lighter. Thanks so much for this awesome tip!
Hi Gail,
It is amazing! How can something so simple work so effectively glad it worked for you! Amee
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have 4 young children and a (not-yet-totally-housetrained) dog, so this will come in very handy!
Hi Ginny, You are welcome! If it were not for my son having the accident I would never have known about this so I guess his mess will help others. Thanks for stopping by and good luck with the new pup too!

Yeah thanks to my son I was able to do that post how cool! Thanks for pinning it and letting me know. How exciting!
How about the Oder?
Hi Kristie,
The cleaning solution should clean the odor smell as well.
Amee
Of course……dug….never. thought of it for a mattress. That’s the best mix for skunk & dog and cat’s!!! Now you know….!
Good to know about it being good for a skunk wish I had known this as a kid because our dogs always got sprayed! Thanks for the tip!
Definitely the first choice for a pet who has been skunked!! Usually, the first instinct is to spray the dog with water to rinse the odor off. But because the skunk’s “scent” is actually an oil-based spray, using water will only spread the skunk smell further!
I am about to try your reciepe on a mattress, and anxious to see how it works!
For carpet stains, I typically use white vinegar in a spray bottle, followed by Dawn dishsoap (slightly diluted in one of the foaming handwash pump bottles.) Spray the vinegar on the area to be cleaned and let sit for a couple minutes. Then follow it with a pump of the Dawn dishsoap foam and brush into the carpet with a toothbrush or small fingernail brush (one with a small handle can be found at Sally Beauty Supply stores for about $1.) Blot the area with a dry, white towel, and repeat if necessary. Works every time!
This combo has taken out ink stains, dirt, coffee, and even rust stains from a wire dog crate, on IVORY colored carpet! The rust stains had been there for years, and I hadn’t yet found a product that could take it out!
Don’t know why I never thought of using this on the mattress as well!!!!
Hi Wendy,
I have heard this over and over about this working for a dog that is skunked. I currently do not own any dogs, only cats, but if anyone or anything in my family was skunked I would try this mixture.
I hope the mixture works on your mattress and I am going to try your cleaning tip here very soon.
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving comment love.

Amee
Thank you so much for this!! My son has been having problems with incontinence, so this will come in very handy!!
Your welcome I am so thankful for it because I thought for sure that mattress was ruined.
That same formula works great for neutralizing skunk odors. When our dog gets sprayed by a skunk we use this mixture in a spray bottle and spray him down, being careful not to let it get into his eyes, and the odor is neutralized..Not covered up, but neutralized..Works great..
Thank you for the skunk tip have indoor cats now, but growing up had a best friend who had a pet skunk wish I could have sprayed her down lol.
Oh man, this is great! We co-sleep so accidents are going to happen. My fairly new mattress is already stained…So happy to have found a solution.
Glad I can help someone else because the results were beyond amazing and the smell thank goodness was gone!
OK, I used this cleaning solution and IT WORKED!! I used it on my barely 2 year old white mattress that had quite a few stains on it..I am so happy with the results. Thank you!
Hi Heidi,
Amee
Glad it worked for you it is quite amazing how something so simple does such a great job.
I am so trying this! My little dog passed away last year after sudden kidney failure but had left piddle marks on the sofa. I got the odor out, but there was lingering stain. so hoping this will take care of the last bits. We do doggie fostering as well so it will come in VERY useful. and will be spraying the carpets as well as the sofas.. just need to find a spare spray bottle!
I have a neighbor who used this on her carpet where her dogs peed and she said it worked great. Make sure with sofa and carpet you test an area before spraying too much.
my husband had a stoke in 2ooo and it affected his bladder control. I found that washing his clothes with regular laundry detergent and cider vinegar in the wash and also in the fabric dispenser his clothes come out smelling fresh and no urine smell.
I use vinegar to wash my cloth diapers and it helps keep them smelling fresh. Amazing how simple products can do so much, but companies make these horrible chemical cleaners.
This is so good to know! Your results are amazing too!
Your welcome! Yes I was shocked by the results and the smell was so awful, but now it is completely gone. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my blog.
Will this work on carpet pet stains, or will it take the color out of the carpet?
Hi Heidi, I have a friend who tried it and she said it worked, as for color fading I am not sure, but I would test a small area before you go crazy. I have not personally used it yet on carpet myself. Thanks for asking.
My mattress is so bad with water and the occasional diaper leak from my daughter. Does it get water stains out to? Maybe if I do more than one application it will work! I guess if it doesn’t I could just unzip the top cover to my sleep number and take it to the ginormous washer at the laundry mat!
It will work on the pee stain, but not sure about a water stain, but if it is only water then I assume it would work too.
Tyvm!! I will experiment a bit with it! Would rather do this than pay to go to the laundry mat! Ty for posting this!!
Will continue to pass this around and pin it on pinterest!
Your welcome and thank you for sharing it or thanks to my son for peeing lol.
I know I may be a little dense here
but do you just spray it on and leave it alone or do I scrub it for the 5 minutes you said?
Hey AJ Welcome you just spray it and leave it and only wipe or vacuum if a residue is left from the baking soda. Hope this clears things up and good luck! Amee
They have waterproof mattress pads for around 50$… they save all the trouble of scrubbing your mattress!
Yep I know it was not a kid bed their beds have them. Live and learn!
I also learned that some adults won’t say they have had an issue. Lived and learned that one…..nuf said….
Thank you for the information! I have three boys and up until recently I had a problem with two of them having accidents at night and now I am down to one. I used plastic coverings, the waterproof pads, and anything and everything I could think of to try and save the mattresses. About two months ago and five mattresses later I bought the younger two boys the double height air mattresses so all I have to do is throw the bedding in the wash and wash the mattress outside. At least now when I go to buy them actual mattresses again I know how to save the mattress! Thanks
Hi Ginny,
Glad I posted the information so I could help too! Amee
I have a mattress pad but somehow it tore and the urine leaked through it. My son was mortified, as was I, but he couldn’t help the accident.
I tried this recipe today and it worked phenomenally well! I am beyond amazed. Thank you!
Hi Michelle,
I am so happy to hear how you found me and better yet the cleaning solution worked. Thank you for the feedback! Amee
will this work on vomit stains as well or just pee stains?
I would assume it will work for that by eliminating the stain with the peroxide and taking the smell with the baking soda.
It does work on pet stains also, thanks for the info.
Thank you I have been told this by many who have tried it, glad it helped you!
I didn’t have pee stains on my mattress, but rather vomit, drool, and a couple blood stains. I just did this and they ALL came out. I’m gonna use this as a general mattress freshener. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Hi Amy, Glad to know it works on blood I have some on another mattress and will have to try that too. Thanks for the feedback and you are most welcome.
I have learned the hydrogen peroxide is good for so many things. I keep it in my washroom, as well as all bathrooms for things other than boo boos. It will “eat” blood faster and better than anything on the market! **this is my first time here and I gotta say, as the mom of 8 wonderful blessings, with the top half raised, working on the bottom half now, I TOTALLY LOVE YOUR DISCLAIMER!!!
HI Kelly, WOW a mother of eight God Bless you! I am the middle of seven girls (yes my poor father) I cannot imagine that many, but I am sure you used a lot of hydrogen peroxide in your time. Thanks for stopping by and glad you love my disclaimer I know you can relate to needing a nanny lol. Please come back I do post other interesting topics.

Thanks Ginny!
I loved the recipe but I found it very hard to spray. I used 2 different bottles and the baking soda clogged them both. so i dabbed it on with a wash cloth and it worked beautifully. Thanks
Hi Melissa, Sorry to hear about that I never had a problem with clogging as it dissolved right away. Glad it worked whatever way you used it!
Amee
I had the same problem today. After attempting with 3 different bottles just took a soft bristle brush and rubbed it in. Worked GREAT!! Any tips for keeping the clogging from happening??
Hi Sandy,
I have never had a clogging issue myself, but I know some people’s sprayers have a little plastic piece at the bottom of the straw part of sprayer and that must be removed. The heavy duty spray bottles tend to work better and some have even use squirt bottles as well. Sorry for the logging issues, but glad it worked for you!
Amee
Melissa, the first spray bottle I tried clogged up immediately, then I noticed the straw part had a little piece at the bottom that apparently helps create a fine mist. Luckily, I had an almost empty Windex bottle, and the straw didn’t have that little piece, and it worked well. Since my mattress is a King and I needed to make more than one batch, I did find it necessary to rinse the nozzle with hot water to unclog it once. I also found that shaking it often helped keep it well mixed.
Thanks for the tip! I was having the same problem –don’t know why I didn’t think of the piece at the bottom of the straw!
I thought this was going to work great on my mattress, but sadly enough, it didnt. I tried it this morning and the stain turned from light yellow, to white, but then once it dried, the stain was green! Pea green! Not very happy about it, but what can ya do, right? Guess we’ll just have to deal with it
Hi Amanda, Maybe try it again I do not know what to tell you my mattress turned white and not another color. :/ sorry that is weird what was the stain urine or maybe the material of the mattress. Amee
WOW!! I used it on my mattress after my puppy had an accident…cleaned the whole stain up right before my eyes. only problem I had was that it was too thick to spray through the spray nozzle, so I poured it right on the stain.
Hi Kelsey, Glad it worked for you and sorry it was too thick I guess it depends on the sprayer you have. I had no issues, but sprayers are all made differently. Thanks for posting and stopping by with the good news. Amee
Hi Amee,
I was wondering what type of spray bottle you used? I have tried 2 different spray bottles and neither of them will work with this cleaning solution. I did make sure that there was not a baking powder clog in the tube, that was not the issue.
Thanx for your help
Meg
Hi Megan, The spray bottle I used was a heavy duty Garden Accent Treasures 32 oz spray bottle I bought from Lowes several years ago. It is a heavy duty sprayer if this helps it worked great without any issues. Sorry you had issues others have said the same thing hope you can find a heavy duty spray bottle that works for you.

Will go check out your blog!
I am trying to finish the process of potty training my 4th and final child. She will be 4 next week and is still needing pull-ups when she sleeps. Yesterday she fell asleep on the couch with out one on. I put a waterproof pad under her when I realized she had fallen asleep, but she somehow missed it and peed on my dark blue couch. Can I use this formula on it? Will it fade? Thanks in advance! ~Amy
Hi Amy, I would test it out first on an area that is not noticeable. I have not used this on a colored surface, but I have heard others have. Peroxide does have a bleaching effect, but not necessarily on everything. Let me know if you try it out and if it works for you. Thanks, Amee
you can also use the same mixture to remove the skunk smell out of your pet. we had a incident w our dog and a skunk sprayed her and she just smelled so bad. i called the vet and they told me to get a lg bottle of proxide, i think a 2/3 cup baking soda, and a teaspoon of dawn. dont get it in their mouth or eyes. and yes it cant be stored.
Hi Marcie, I have heard this from several other people too. Thank you for posting the tip I wish my dad knew this trick when I was a kid because our dog got sprayed a lot. I remember tomatoe juice baths that helped, but still left a hint.
Although you may get the “Visual” stain out, unfortunately you will never get all of the pee out. It’s the worst thing in the world to get on anything. No matter where you go to have something cleaned, if it is people pee or pet pee they will always tell you the same thing.
All I know is the smell is completely gone and so is the stain. If this formula can deskunk a dog pee has nothing against it. This might be true in some instances, but not this time at least.
I too had the same problem with the spray bottle. I used 2 different ones (granted one was a cheap dollar store one and the other on old window washing one) but the both got clogged somewhere inside. I am still waiting to see if it got the stains on.. but I sure hope it works. My boys pee their bed way too often (and the plastic cover got ripped off more then once.)
Thanks for your info!
Next time try a gardening spray bottle the one pictured I bought from Lowes I believe. Glad I could help out!
Do you have to use the whole thing on the stin, like do you have to saturate the stain, cause I have a few on my mattress.
If you only have tiny stains make sure you get them soaked, but if you have solution leftover you do not have to use it. You cannot save the leftover you must throw out.
Out of curiosity, did your mattress smell like Hydrogen Peroxide after this?
No the mattress did not have much smell after that at all. No Hydrogen Peroxide smell on my end…:)
If it does have a peroxide smell just sprinkle some lavender baby powder on it after its all dried up!!
We have had an Au Pair for three years and I wanted to sell the mattresses on Craiglist after she left as we didn’t need so many beds. I stripped the sheets to find that somehow something was spilled on it – I am guessing Coke due to the color, location and her addition to Coke
This worked like a charm for that stain as well – so now I can sell them with no guilt for listing a dirty mattress!
Hi Misty, Glad to hear it worked on Coke! Thanks for the tip. Amee
This solution works well for treating skunk spray!
Hi Lindsey,
That is what people say hope I never have to try it out.
Hi – I’m curious if you need a big (sort of industrial looking) sprayer. I used a small one I keep for ironing, and it clogged right away
May be running to Target tomorrow for a bigger one. Thanks!
Hi Sandy,
I have a big garden sprayer from Lowes and I had no problems. Sounds like you will need a heavier duty sprayer and then it should not clog.
I used an empty Windex bottle and didn’t have a problem w/ clogging. Maybe it wasn’t mixed well enough?
Sounds like you did just fine glad it worked for you and did not clog.
I recycled a pump sprayer similar to what non-aerosol hairspray comes in and that worked fine. I just kept shaking the container to make sure the contents stayed mixed. Perhaps the baking soda was old and clumpy?
I too had an issue with the sprayers.. I had to switch it 3 times. Sadly enough my issues did not stop there. I sprayed the stain, and it didn’t work. I checked and double checked that it was in fact baking soda and not baking powder. Sucks, not sure where I went wrong. Any ideas?
Hi Desiree,
I am sorry about the sprayer my sprayer had no issues and I only used it that one time and it worked great for me. Was it urine or another stain? I would try and get a heavy duty sprayer from Lowes or Home Depot from the garden section which is what I had and retry maybe the malfunction of the sprayer did not allow enough on the mattress. Sorry you had issues hope you get it to work – if nothing else throw baking soda on there and hydrogen peroxide and rub it in. Amee
I don’t know if this will help but baking soda will expire. You might buy some new and try it.
Hi Ashley,
Yes thank you for that little bit of information never thought about the baking soda being expired and not working because it is old.
Amee
Totally worked!! Thanks!!
Hi Dianne,
Glad it worked for you yeah!
Amee
Borax is not a chemical, it is a natural mineral (a salt) that is mined.
Thanks for the tip! It is not safe for my small children to ingest though or me. Amee
Neither is baking soda or hydrogen peroxide, lol.
I to was confused about this…you did not want to use borax which is a natural product because of it being toxic but you used Dawn dish detergent which is nothing but toxic chemicals.
Hi Lisa,
I am only a housewife not a chemist, but I did a lot of research to figure out the best and most safe way to clean the soiled mattress with my children being in the room with me. Borax while yes mined naturally is not safe to ingest or inhale. My son is known to get into stuff all the time and I worried if I used it on my mattress he might somehow go jump on the bed and breath borax.
Dawn is not natural, but they do use it to save wildlife in oil spills. I assumed the risk associated with using one drop of Dawn, but if one drop of Dawn dish soap makes you feel uncomfortable. Please do not use the recipe. I hope I cleared up any confusion.
Hugs,
Amee
Thankyou for saving my lovely pillow top mattress! My 2 year old peed through her training diaper and I thought the cover I had on my mattress was waterproof but it wasn’t. I initially tried spraying it with dreft stain remover but the stain and smell remained. So I googled and found your solution which worked perfectly!
Hi Jaydra,
Glad it worked for you!
Amee
Just wondering if anyone tried this solution to get pee stains out of the carpet? I discovered an old stain when we moved my daughter’s bed and haven’t been able to get it out. Might have to give this a try though!
Hi Michelle,
Amee
I have a neighbor who had a dog who peed on her carpet and she tried it and it worked. Her carpet was white though so you might want to test a small area to make sure there is no fading to the carpet.
We have a gray mattress that has stains on it, will it work on this without making white spots?
Also, does this work on pillows? Thanks!
Hi Aubrey,
The peroxide is what would discolor it. You might try a corner of the mattress to color test, but if it is stained I think it would be better to get the nasty stuff gone. As for pillows I throw my pillows in the washer when dirty, but it might work. Amee
Thanks so much. It worked great! Minutes after spraying it on it was coming off! Wipe of with a rag and wah lah. Thanks!!!
Yeah glad it worked so well for you Ashley and your welcome!
Thank you so much. I tried this and on an old dog urine stain on my carpet and it made it better but did not take it all way…then I re-read your instructions…. I did not leave it on long enough. I went back and reapplied and left it on a bit longer than the time you indicated and the horrible stain the commercial per urine cleaner would not remove was almost invisible. I cannot thank you enough for posting this!
Hi Dixie,
Glad it worked for you and I am glad my son’s wetting the bed is helping so many people. Thanks for the feedback! Amee
I have family coming to visit tomorrow and as I decided to put fresh sheets on the spare bed I was face to face with a large, old urine stain. For the time that it’s been there it hasn’t really bothered me but since I saw this recipe and had the ingredients I figured ‘what the heck? Why not?!
’ OH MY GOSH!! I wish I had taken a ‘before’ photo!! I couldn’t stop staring at the mattress!! I almost couldn’t believe it really worked! (my last home made cleaning remedy found on pinterest turned out to be a failure) I was very pleased with the result!! Great thing to have in my mommy tool box!!! Thank you for this!!
Hi Brittany,
Glad your company get to sleep on a stain free mattress. It is incredible I was so glad I decided to photograph before I started it. Your welcome! Amee
Any idea if this would work on a Futon mattress? They are filled differently I think..I have 2 for guests and camping….one has dog pee one has boy pee
Hi Jaci,
It has worked for people on their couches and carpets, so I assume it will work for a futon mattress too. Read comments below to see all the successes. Amee
Does anyone know if it has to be conventional dish liquid, like Dawn? I prefer to stay away from those and use a natural one, like Seventh Generation Free & Clear. I guess it couldn’t hurt to try.
Hi Christy,
I have no clue as I only used Dawn, but it is only a drop so I would think it should still work. Like you said it can’t hurt to try. Let me know if it works for you.
Amee
I used an all natural dish soap and it seems to have worked just fine.
Good to know because someone else wanted to use Seventh Generation dish soap and I told her I was not sure if it would work. Thanks for the tip!
This also works on blood stains. If you have teen-aged girls, or girls just entering puberty who haven’t gotten their period yet, they can also stain a mattress. Hydrogen peroxide will get blood out of clothing too, so if you have cuts, or bloody noses etc. of any kind, use hydrogen peroxide, full-strength, on it!
Hi Becky,
Thank you for the tips and glad it worked for you. Amee
i can’t believe how well this worked! it started fading stains immediately. i’m totally shocked. thank you so much!
I know how you feel when I did this I was skeptical, but so excited I tried it.
This really worked on urine stain…totally gone. Thank you!!
Hi Dena,
Glad this worked for you! Amee
Does this also work for pet stains on carpets?
Nvm, I just found a comment that said it worked! Must have missed it my first pass through.
Hi Mallory,
I would test a small area to be safe though. Amee
AHHHH- MAZING!!!! Worked perfectly! No scrubbing needed! I couldn’t believe it!!!
Ashley,
Yeah that is how I felt when I did it no scrubbing I could not believe it. So glad you had the same experience. Thanks for sharing your success.
Amee
The same mixture is great for removing the pee smell from bathrooms and it cleans the grout too! I watched it on Mythbusters they removed skunk spray and I thought well I wonder if it works for little boys too. It does and the grout was a bonus!
I love Myth Busters they always do some of the craziest stuff. Yeah lots of people posted it works on skunk spray as well. Glad it know it works on grout! Thanks for stopping by and come back again. Amee
I just tried this and it seems to have worked. I didnt have a big spot. Just a smell that leaked through the mattress pad. Just waiting on it to dry. I would put it out in the sun but its to big for me! If only kids and pets came potty trained!!
Hi Christi,
Glad it worked for you!
OMGoodness!!! I am so happy I found your blog, because this home remedy worked like a charm!! Thank you!!
Hi Latasha,
I am so happy I could be of help I am glad I thought to photograph and blog my son’s pee accidents because it is helping so many others. Thanks, Amee
Wow! This is so fantastic! I was skeptical at first, but before 5 minutes were up I could see it starting to work! It removed every single little bit of stain from my little granddaughter’s accident on our mattress!
Thank you so very much for this fabulous tip!
Hi Laurie,
Glad it worked for you and got your mattress clean!
Amee
I’m wondering do you know if this will work on a tempurpedic mattress? Does it have to be a regular mattress to work?
Thanks!
Hi Kristin,
This has worked on carpet so I would assume it would work on your Tempurpedic mattress it will not hurt to try it!
Amee
I found this great idea on Pinterest. With three kids, there are accidents in the middle of the night. I am ready to try this out this weekend!
Hi Ana,
Glad you found me it truly is amazing how well it works! Amee
OMG!! It really works!!! Tried it today on some large stains and hours later…gone! Thank you so much
Hi Valerie,
I am so glad it worked for you and thank you for the feedback!
Amee
Did anyone have a problem with the solution clogging the spray bottle nozzle??
I just made it to clean a very stinky mattress & it clogged 2 spray nozzles….finally I just took a bottle of water (minus the water) and poked holes in the lid and sprayed it liked that. I’m still waiting for the mattress to dry..so we’ll see if it worked.
Hi Vanessa,
Yes some people have had issues the spray bottle I used was a heavy duty one from the garden section of Lowes. I hope you were able to get it to work for you! Amee

I used this on my cream colored carpet and it worked great~!!! I was worried about using it on my gold colored carpet but figured what the heck…couldnt make it any worse and it worked fantastic on it!!! Ugly spot is gone along with the odor!!! Thanks!!!
Hi Kathy,
So glad it worked on your carpet and did not discolor it! Amee
Sprayed this on my mattress this morning, left for work, came back at lunch time and it is ten times lighter. The stain isn’t gone so I’m going to try another round of it but not too shabby for the first time.
Hi Kimberly,
Yeah glad it worked for you. Yes if it is a really old hard stain doing it a couple of times will probably do the trick.
Amee
I did it a couple times and now my matress is hard and crispy ): stains are pretty much gone..but I dont know what to do now..any suggestions??
Hi Stephanie,
It is probably from the baking soda I would use a vacuum with a hose attachment and go over it. Glad it helped the staining. If the vacuum trick does not work you might need to respray with just water and wipe the area down. I am sure after a while it will go back to the texture it was. Jump on the bed

Amee
I almost didn’t leave a message here because so many others did but I just have to give you props. I can’t believe it worked! The mattresses looked awful and the room was starting to get a little stinky. Your solution worked like a charm!
Not that I enjoy sleaning in the least, but I’m a little excited to try it in the bathroom!
Hi Laura,
Glad you left a comment and stopped by! I have two great cleaning posts for the bathroom you can check out too. This is for your tubs, showers, sinks http://www.inspired-housewife.com/2012/07/15/the-best-bathroom-homemade-cleaner-scum-remover/ This one is for your toilets and around the floor if you have boys/men in your house like I do. http://www.inspired-housewife.com/2012/05/02/clean-your-dirty-toilet-with-homemade-toilet-bowl-cleaner/ Please feel free to sign up for e-mail/RSS as I post anything that works for me. Thanks, Amee
Wow perfect i am going to try this tomorrow my white mattress is quite severly stained in a particular spot and i have a balcony i can dry it on too!! what percentage hydrogen peroxide is it? normal 3% i am in the uk and through research sometimes its difficult to obtain dependant on percentage due to london bombings! i am so excited to clean tomorrow lol
HI Gemma, Yes it is just the normal 3% you would buy from your local drug store. Hope you can get it and that is unfortunate that the bad apples ruin it for the rest of us. I live in Germany when those bombings happens and also the Madrid, Spain bombings too. So sad and senseless. Hope it works for you!
Amee
Single dad here. I was scouring the internet for a solution to lift the stains from my two-year-old’s mattress after a particularly bad accident and came across this method. It worked great, lifted the stain in no time. I’m actually about to try this to see if I can pull other kinds of stains out of fabric. Thanks for posting this.
Hi Ryan,
First kudos on being a single parent it is a hard job! Readers have told me this works on skunks, upholstery, animal pee accidents, and carpet staining. I have only ever used it on my mattress so if you use it anywhere else test an area first. Glad you found me and hope you stick around.
Amee
Am I the only one who couldn’t get this mixture to even come out of my spray bottle?? My bottle worked perfectly before – I even used it immediately before putting in the mixture by squirting water through it to rinse it. I put this mixture in, and nothing would come out, I tried and tried. Then when I rinsed the mixture out and replaced it with plain water, still nothing will come out! Did the baking soda clog it? I was hoping to see that someone else had this problem, but it doesn’t look that way. I’m hesitant to try it again because I don’t want to waste another bottle.
Nevermind, I read farther in and saw that someone else did have this problem. I used a fairly heavy duty bottle, so I guess I’m S.O.L.
Do not give up you can mix and pour it on too! Amee
Hi Emily,
Sorry to hear of your issues. Some people had success when they used a Windex spray bottle and other simply mixed it in the bottle then poured it over area. Amee
I had trouble with it clogging to, so I put it in a squirt bottle, like a ketchup bottle and squirted it onto the area, then spread it around some with a white washcloth. Worked wonders!!!!!
Hi Kathy,
Sorry to hear you had issues too boy it worked great for me with no issues. Using a squirt bottle is a great idea too glad it worked for you! Amee
Have to update: this DOES take out 7 year vomit stains (thanks to one person’s drunken bachelor nights)!! Awesome! Now here’s to hoping they stay GONE!
Thanks for posting & to the many, many pinners on pinterest!
Oh, AND, my sprayer clogged too, but i simply took a thin rag/washcloth & dabbed/rubbed it on the stains & all of it has disappeared. UH-mazing!
Great glad you were able to make it work!
Amee
Hi Rachel,
and yes I thank you and other pinners out there too.
Good to know it takes out stains that old and your comment made me chuckle
What is the funnel used for??
I used the funnel to put the ingredients into the bottle to create less mess. Thanks for asking and hope it works for you Rebecca.
Amee
So excited! Going to try this! thank you thank you thank you! Also, we are potty training a pup so I am stoked about this in that regard as well!
Hi Amy,
You are welcome! I am so happy my son’s accidents are helping people. This works for pups too just be sure to color test your carpet before you really spray it.
Amee
Does this work for carpet too?
Hi Melanie,
Some readers have used this on their carpet and they said it worked. One woman said her carpet was a gold color and it did not hurt it. My suggestion if you try it is to color test it first. Thanks, Amee
Always make sure you test it and NEVER USE ON LEATHER it really does work…….
Thanks Ginger yes do not use on leather!
I tried this and it worked great (I thought) until the next time sheet washing day came around and there was the stain again, but bigger…I did spray the solution all around the stain so that would explain it being bigger, but why did it go away and come back everywhere I sprayed? Hmmm…Does anyone have any thoughts?
Hi Kristi,
My stain never came back so I am not sure what to tell you other than some readers had to spray the stain a couple different times to get it to totally go away. Maybe try doing it again and see what happens. Hope someone else reading can chime in for you. Thanks, Amee
Once you spray it on the mattress, about how long does it take to dry?
It only took a few hours, but I did have my son’s ceiling fan on if that had any effect I am not sure. Thanks, Amee
Mine did the same thing. I thought the stain came back but it was actually a wet spot. Everywhere the area was wetted left a water spot. Just have to test the material. Urine Stain is gone though.
Thank you so much. I only had about 4 oz of hydrogen peroxide, but I halved the baking soda and put it in a bottle and it worked great. My daughter had a little accident and it cleaned up right away and it also removed another old stain on the bed as well. Thank you so much !!.
-Mark
Hi Mark,
Yeah so glad it worked for you even though you had to change up the recipe a bit. You are welcome I love the fact I am helping people with pee issues! Amee
I’m doing some spring cleaning, yes in Aug, and my 9 year old still has occasional accidents. I’ve had a professional clean it and I also rented a machine which neither helped with the smell. The mattress has designs so you can’t see the stain but you can smell it… I’m trying this as soon as I get off of here, I hope this works or I guess I’m getting a new mattress AGAIN:(
Hi Dee Dee,
Hey I am ALWAYS spring cleaning around here so do not feel bad it is an on-going process especially when you have kids.
If the stain is really bad you might have to do it a couple of times, but it should work. It took out 7 year old stains from one lady’s mattress the other week. Please let me know if you have success love to hear how my post saved people money and sanity!
Amee
My 13 year old cat decided to unload her bladder a few times on the same spot on our futon where she laid on her death bed a few months ago. She had a kidney infection that we were unaware of and i slept and snuggled on the futon with her every night thinking that she was “on her way out”. She had no control of her body and pee just trickled out. I managed to get the smell out but she apparently could still smell it and thought she’d use it as a litter box a few days ago…then again…and again last night. Our futon is black so I’m nervous about the peroxide. Has anyone tried it on a dark color?
Hi Jillian,
The peroxide is more for the staining so you could try it without. However, I had a lady with dark gold carpet who used it and it did nothing to ruin the color so I would test a corner or a part you will not see. Sorry about the cat
Amee
This worked awesome! I did it on a fresh spot and an old stain. It took away both stains and the smell (and the yuck factor). Thanks so much.
Hi Katrina,
Yeah love it! So happy it worked for you and the yuck factor!
Amee
Amazing! This actually worked on a half dried large pee stain. Had to do a second treatment, but was dumbfounded to find it COMPLETELY removed the stain. Thanks so much Amee!
[...] Use all of the above to remove pee pee stains from a mattress. Removes the smell too! Source [...]
I wonder if this would work on my white slipcovers? My puppy has been marking the corners and I’m so tired of re-washing the largest part. :/
Hi Karen,
I think it might irk nd the vinegar hopefully will make the puppy quit marking. Sorry about the doggy accidents :/. Amee
I just tried this last night and could not wait to check the results this morning. I was not disappointed! Amazing!
Hi Istaa,
Yeah so happy it worked for you and saved another mattress. Thank you for the feedback! Hugs, Amee
I just tried this on a pee stain today and it worked great!! I also used it on an old blood stain from when my son had a bloody nose in the middle of the night and it got out the majority of that stain. Thanks so much for posting this!
Hi Amy,
Glad you got the stains out. With the blood you might have to do it one more time to totally get it out. Thanks for stopping in and commenting I love hearing the success stories.
Hugs,
Amee
It worked. At first I used old generic baking soda I had. It lightened the stain, but didn’t remove it. Then I thought, “use a little common sense here.” So I purchased Arm & Hammer baking soda (new-not expired), a great spray bottle from a lawn care store, Dawn and a funnel. Once all ingredients were in the bottle, I shook it up and sprayed away liberally. It worked. I swear it was the fresh box of Arm & Hammer and Dawn liquid dish soap that did the trick the second time around. Thank you for this great idea. It’s affordable, non-toxic and works with the correct measurements and ingredients.
Hi Trish,
Thank you for the tip about the baking soda that is good to know. I also love this because of the affordability and that it is not harsh. Than you for the feedback!
Amee
I used this mixture also and it lifted the stains right off. I use all kinds of cleaners but i didnt know something this simple was so effective. I was shocked. I am definitly going to use this one again on other things!! Thanks so much.
Hi Phil,
I know it is shocking how simple it is and it works. Others have used this on pet accidents, stains in carpet and also I guess this mixture can get skunk smell out. Thanks for stopping by! Amee
Thank you! I am borrowing the mattress my girl sleeps on from my parents, so I’m so grateful this is working! Of course, they understand about small children, but I would love to give it back to them looking and smelling great.
Hi Becky,
You are more than welcome! I am glad my post is so helpful and that my son’s accidents make a difference in other people’s mattresses.
Amee
I don’t know if anybody else posted this but after they pee. Sprinkle salt over the area and the saslt with soak up the urine and clump up. Vaccuum up after its done.
Hi Peggy,
Never heard of that trick thank you will have to try that the next accident we have in the house.
Hugs,
Amee
We do this for all spills. My mom taught me this so long ago I forget not everyone knows that salt is pretty helpful. My son spilled a whole bottle of grape juice on my recliner and you would never know now
Thanks for the post I can’t wait to try it tomorrow!
Hi Rachel,
Thanks next time I have a spill I will use the salt trick.
Amee
This works on the “spots” that show up on lamp shades also. Thanks for posting!!
Hi Sheila,
Wow another good tip to know I will have to try that as I have a lamp shade with little finger prints on it. Thanks for the tip and popping in on my blog.
Hugs,

Isn’t this pretty much the same thing as using OxyClean?
Hi Sherry,
I am not a chemist, but according to stuff I read on Wikapedia they are similar. Thanks, Amee
This is a great combination for stain and odour removal.
One thing to remember is that Hydrogen Peroxide IS a chemical: it can cause burns (please wear gloves while handling) and it will bleach out dark coloured fabrics.
As for vinegar – another great household tool… But remember it is a chemical as well, Acetic Acid is a common ingredient in many cleaners!
Glad you were able to solve your mattress issues!
Hi Andrea,
Thank you for the tips, but I have never had HP burn me, but thank you for the advice. Many people have tried this on dark colored carpet and it did not ruin their color so I would test a small area if people wanted to try this on something other than a mattress.
Yes vinegar who knew it cleaned so well I am totally learning about this thanks to my crunchy friends. Thanks so much for the tips and advice I will make sure I keep them in mind the next time I use them. Thanks for stopping in.

Hi I need help! I have leather couches, they are brown kinda like suede, and my kiddos and dogs have dirtied it up! Could I use this mixture on it?I need to clean it badly, and is stinky too….soooo embarrassing, could you email new?I will send pics if you would like to see what kind of leather it is…..you rock thanks!
Shell
Hi Sheli,
Yes it should work, however, you need to test an area first because hydrogen peroxide works by breaking down protein strands, and while non-toxic, it can damage dyed leather. I would test a hidden area before doing the entire couch. Take before and after photos I would love to see if you get it too work. I would let sit about 10 minutes and then use a clean rag to blot dry. I would then use your leather conditioner after you have cleaned it too.
I hope this works for you!
Amee
Thank you so much for this info! It worked great on my mattress, I was pleasantly surprised. I have also used this solution on my tan carpet for pet stains and it did not discolor it.
Hi Kim,
So happy it worked and thanks for letting me know about your carpet lots of people ask this question.
Amee
Thank you! My 2 year old had an accident last night and I’ve been searching the web high and low for a non-chemical/harsh/eat your skin off answer. I didn’t want to smell any cleaners or fabric deodorizers. I just ran to Target (9pm Target run) and walla! The stain is gone, as well as the chocolate Pediasure stains:) Thank you for sharing!
Hi Stephanie,
Glad you found me and the recipe. Yeah that it worked and got the chocolate stain out too.
Hugs,
Amee
wish I had taken before and after pictures, I can’t believe how well this worked! I used it for cleaning up a year old-stain from a diarrhea accident (which I initially cleaned with my upholstery cleaner but still stained badly) and stains from breastmilk. Had to do two coats but totally worked.
no kidding about the “can’t store it” part. I set the spray bottle on the carpet for ten minutes while I attended to a child and came back to a puddle from it dripping from the nozzle. good news: the carpet didn’t discolor.
I totally know what you mean it is amazing and hard to believe. I was so glad I took photos to show how good it works and I am happy it did the trick for you. Thanks for the tip on the carpet as well and glad your mattress is clean.
Amee
Im so happy i found this ! My boyfriend and i got a puppy and thought she was doing so well not peeing in the house, but i found out she had been peeing on the bed, so gross ! I literally just sprayed my matress and can already see some stains 100% gone ! Thanks again !
Hi Shaunna,
Glad you found it too and I have many other stain cleaning tips for other areas of the house. Good luck on the doggy potty training.
Amee
Do you have tips for removing makeup from carpet? Also does this get the odor out!
Hi Lindsey,
Yes the odor goes away and as for makeup it depends on what it is. Here is a link that might help. http://www.ehow.com/how_5124983_makeup-stains-out-carpet.html
This was amazing. Can’t believe how great it worked. Thanks for sharing it.
Hi Deb,
So glad it worked for you too. I know it is pretty amazing!
Amee
Has anyone tried this on a pillow top mattress? We’re at the end of potty training so obviously our LO has had some accidents! Thanks!
Hi Hollie,
Yes I have also done this on our king size pillow top without any issues and the stains all came out fine.
Amee
did you have to do it more than once because it didn’t work as well as I thought it would :-/
Hi Hollie,
I have had people do it two or three times, but their staining was really bad. I only did it once on my mattresses, but I know people have done it more. Amee
It looks a lot better now its just taking a while to dry I’m gonna try it again later thanks
Omg..This works great…thanks for the information
Do you have any suggestions how to get rancid smell out of plastic dish ware and plastic storage bowls.
Judith
Hi Judith,
There are a few things you can do to try and remove the nasty smells. Soak your dishes in vinegar over night and then wash them as you would normally. Add in vinegar to your dishwasher and see if that helps. Coffee grinds put them in your bowl and seal them up tight and sit for a day or two and if there a any deep scratches where food could be scrub the bowl with salt and water and then clean as normal. Hope these tips help! Amee
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I will give your suggestions a try.
Judith
Hey no problem glad I could help you out and let me know if it works as i have never done that before.
Amee
I will, I will give it a try tomorrow.
Happy Pinning.
Judith
tried this today after trying everything else i could think of including a bleach spray and ruining my favorite sheets and pillow cases……was concerned it wasnt going to work because the stains had set but after i sprayed the full amount on the stains i went back after some time and they had either disappeared or lightened up drastically. im amazed, i didnt have to scrub or anything, no strong chemical smells. will let it sit for awhile longer may need to do another treatment to get them to completely disappear but it definately works and im very impressed, thank you!!!
Hi Tlo,
Glad it worked for you. Yes some people need to domore than one application for a really bad stain to be totally gone.
Amee
I used this on my mattress this morning for pet stains. Dang pets – the dog peed up there once and the cat twice. I got the odor out when I discovered the messes (vinegar for the cat pee) but all three left a stain – I swear this is magic!
My only question – did any one else have a problem with it clogging up their spray bottles? Maybe I didn’t mix it well enough? I poured it into two spray bottles and both clogged so I ended up just sprinkling it on from the bottle and rubbing it in with my hands.
Hi Sarah,
Yes some people have had issues with their spray bottles and others like me have no so I am not sure if it is what you said not mixed properly or if it is the spray bottle itself. Glad it worked for you though that is awesome.
Amee
Woah. I used this because my daughter who uses night training pants that failed to work last night had peed all over MY bed. And all over my new memory foam mattress topper
I didn’t take photos because I honestly didn’t think this would work. But alas it disappeared before my eyes. Thanks a million. Not only is the stain gone but them smell too. Wow!!
Hi Lisa,
Oh I hate when the training pants fail and they pee in our bed my son did that two nights ago. It is amazing isn’t it! Glad it worked because there is nothing worse than a pee smell to sleep on.
Amee
OMG!!!! Our mattress was only 2 years old when we started potty training our son. Which meant obvious accidents. It started with a mattress cover, which went in the wash after being peed on, and didn’t make it back on the bed before another accident. Which led to another, and another . . . There was just a yellow strip where my sons butt falls when he’s laying in our bed. I was so frustrated by it, as it’s the first new mattress my husband and I had ever bought. I’ve tried every cleaner I could find, no results. BUT THIS ONE, AMAZING!! Within an hour, my yellow had turned to white, I can’t even believe it!! My husband was shocked by the transformation of our mattress too!!! So thrilled I found this!! Thanks so much, you save my mattress!!
Hi Crystal,
I am so glad you found my post and it saved your mattress. Potty training is rough on mattresses for sure and thank you for such a wonderful comment. Here’s to your clean mattress!

Can you use this solution on other things besides mattresses? And will it work on pet stains?
Hi Marisa,
I have had people use it on carpet, on couches and even futons. Yes it has worked for pet owners whose pets have had accidents too. This solution is used to de-skunk animals who have been sprayed as well.
Thanks,
Amee
I used this, this past weekend most of it came up there is still a little stain there any suggestions?
Hi Carly,
Depending on stain some users have posted they had to do a treatment two or three times. Try doing it another time and see if that totally gets rid of it.
Amee
Amee:
HI!!! I wanted to share my experience. I had a year old pee stain, I did cleaned the stain right after my daughter had her accident with Folex. Folex did not take out the yellow color and it left a huge water mark. Thus, my year old stain. After finding your blog via pintrest, I went to the store and bought everything to make the pee remover and the car cleaner you recommended. It cost less than $10 for everything. I came home made my batch of pee remover and “MAGIC” it’s gone! Thank you, thank you for sharing! You rock mama!
Jaclyn
Hi Jaclyn,
Yeah glad it worked for you and thank you glad I could help you.
Amee
I cannot Thank You enough! My daughter had an accident lastnight and we have have out of town guests coming today! I found your blog and had everything need to make the cleaner and after reading the comments I figured I might as well try it. This is AWESOME! The stain is gone, the smell is gone! Thank You so much!
Hi Kerry,
So glad I saved your weekend! So happy for you and thanks for stopping by! Amee
I JUST NOW used it on a puppy stain on my mattress….can’t even tell. Lifted immediately. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Kimberly,
You are welcome so glad it worked!
Amee
Ok quick question… I have a burgandy color couch and there has been accidents on the couch… So now it smells of urin… Will this work on the couch or will it take the color out? there might have been a question like this before but there is so many comments… If anyone knows if this works or what i can use to clean it… any info would be appriciated
Hi Jessie,
One lady used it on her black futon without issues, another lady used it on her gold carpet without issues, and another mom left the bottle unattended and it fizzed over, but did not damage her carpet. I would color a small area first to be sure, but I think you will be okay.
Thanks,
Amee
For the ratio of hydrogen peroxide, 3% should not cause damage to coloured fabric. When you deal with 5%-6% or higher content peroxide, that is when bleaching will affect material. Hope this will help.
Hi Michele,
Thank you so much I have never had any issues with 3% myself, but that is great to know.

Amee
So, my cats peed on the bed a year ago when we switched their litter. Nature’s miracle did a GREAT job getting all the odor out of the mattress but it left a yellow stain everywhere it was poured. I just tried this and it worked! My mattress looks great!
Hi Kristin,
Boo for the cat peeing on your bed, but yeah for the stain being gone from your mattress. :0) Amee
Needless to say after 5 kids I will be trying this! I was also wondering if this solution would work well on the dreaded puke stains? Or do you happen to know anything that will?
Thanks, Cari
Hi Cari,
I had a reader who in college drank too much and the stain had been there for ten years. This solution took it right out even ten years later. They had to do the solution twice to the mattress I believe, but not shabby if you ask me.
Hope your mattress looks like new again.
Amee
This does work! I’m so happy since I wake up to poo and pee from five kids two whom are autistic and the others are just to younge to not too at night. Tears of joy that the smell is ridding
Hi Maggie,
I got a lump in my throat reading your comment I am so happy for you!
Hugs,
Amee
Will the peroxide discolor a dark blue mattress
Hi Sherry,
I have had people use this on gold carpet with no color fast issues, but if worried test a small area first. If you have a nasty stain though I guess discoloration might be okay, but test first.
Thanks,
Amee
I’m stunned and extremely happy at how well this worked!!! Thank you SO much!!!
Hi Tracy,
Yeah so happy it worked for you and you are very welcome. Thanks for stopping by! Amee
Thank you for writing this. I was so happy to find a less chemical solution for this problem!
Thank you for posting this! I’ll be trying this this weekend!
Hi Jess,
Your Welcome! I hope it works for you too!
Amee
I just tried this after my son urinated on the bed and there was an old stain at it took it out. Amazing!!
Hi Paige,
Congrats on getting the stain out I know how good that feels.

I Think I Used Too Much Dawn.I Feel A Residue That Doesn’t Vacuum Up.Any Suggestions?
And The Smell Is Making Me Sick. I’m Sleeping On The Couch Tonight. I Used Two Parts Hydrogen Peroxide To One Part Dawn. Please Help!
Hi Tauna,
You definitely used WAY TOO much Dawn only a drop, with 8 oz of hydrogen peroxide and then the baking soda. I am so sorry it will probably take time for smell to leave or you might have to drag your mattress outside and spray it with your hose and then let it dry.
That is not the recipe on my blog post hope the smell goes away for you.
Hugs,
Amee
You are only supposed to use a drop of Dawn dish soap and that is it for the soap. Sounds like you did not do my recipe. You will probably have to put water on your mattress and then scrub it out. Never had anyone complain so sorry.
I Didn’t Find Your Post Till After I Already Did It. No Way I An Dragging My Mattress Outside….It’s Huge. I Think I Will Just Try A Wet Towel, Scrub A Little Then Use A Dry Towel. My Husband Slept Like Our Newborn Baby Who Already Sleeps Through The Night. He Was Late For Work This Morning. Funny How The Smell Didn’t Even Bother Him. Do You Think Maybe After I Do Some Scrubbing And Let It Dry If I Spray Some Vinager Water On It It Might Help With The Smell? Thanks For Your Help.
Hi Tauna,
Do you have an upholstery cleaner by chance because you could spray water on it and then suck it up that way. You can try vinegar and water, but I think in a few days the smell would go away by itself. I am so sorry as Dawn is pretty potent and smelly. Your idea to use a wet towel then dry is probably your best bet.
Hugs,
Amee
Omg. I can’t believe how well this worked- there are no traces of stain left! On a side note, I tried to quicken the drying process by using a hair dryer and accidentally scorched the mattress. The mixture actually faded the burn to being almost completely invisible! Definitely keeping this recipe handy!
Hi Lana,
Yeah so happy it worked for you!
Amee
I pinned this months ago and finally tried it tonight. The smell wasn’t completely gone but was much improved. I’ll be keeping this recipe on hand for the future!
Hi Allison,
You might have to try this a couple of times to get a smell or stain out. Glad it was improved. Thanks, Amee
Do you have any idea how to get cigarette smoke smell out of mattresses. I’m storing my daughters furniture and they smoked. I left it on my porch for days and sprayed it with everything I could think of. I had to bring it in because it was going to rain, but even with the door closed I can still smell it and I’m afraid my whole house will smell like smoke if I don’t get the odor out soon. It’s a brand new set and hate to tell her she has to get rid of it. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Hi Sheila,
Cigarette smoke is the WORST I do not smoke nor does my husband, but when I would sell on eBay if I happen to purchase an item from a thrift store to desmoke I would throw it in a freezer. Mattresses are a bit big for a home freezer so I would lay it back outside and maybe lightly spray with hose and then sprinkle liberally baking soda all over it. Let that sit for several hours and then vacuum it. I have had another reader who sprayed everything she could think of and it still did not get the smell out. I am sorry not sire if what i told you will work, but it is worth a try. You will probably have to tell your daughter to take it somewhere else because I do not blame you for not wanting that smell in your home. :/ Amee
This absolutely works for pet stains! I couldn’t use a spray bottle since the baking soda clogs the tube, so I just sprinkled it on and rubbed it in with a rag. I could see the stain lifting as I scrubbed. Awesome!
Hi Shawn,
Yeah so glad it worked for you and your pet stain issues.
Amee
You are AMAZING!!! I found another post on Pinterest on how to clean car upholstery. I have that one bookmarked! I googled how to clean pee stains and clicked the first link that showed up. Once it came up I remembered your blog name and connected this one and the car cleaning one! You are one amazing person!! You have helped me tremendously! I’m checking your blog next time I need something. Thank you Thank you!
Awe thank you so much Amanda I am glad you find my cleaning tips helpful! Glad to know my pee tip is easily found if you search for it.

I came across this post from Pinterest after I needed an item to get some pet pee off the carpet. I made some tonight and it worked like magic! The smell is completely gone and the carpet looks like new! Thank you!
Hi Kira,
Glad you found me via Pinterest and it worked for your pet stain accident.

I had pinned this on Pinterest off another site and tried it this weekend and had bad results on my carpet. It not only lightened the spot where I tried it, it – after 4 days – is still wet!! And to top it all off, the dog peed on the same spot this morning. So much for the myth that the vinegar smell will repel pets from peeing in the same area again! I guess the best todo here is try it in a small inconspicious spot first.
Hi Karen,
I am sorry to hear about the carpet. Yes I always tell people to test a small area if not doing the recipe on a mattress. Not sure why it would still be wet if you only used the amount of liquid specified. Could it be more from your dog peeing in the same spot over and over again. Animals are tricky and it sounds like a behavioral issue. Try putting some cayenne pepper over the area once you have cleaned it again. The problem also might be that if the dog has peed a lot it is not in your subfloor. Only way to get rid of that smell is to use Kilz primer on it and roll a couple coats.
Wish it worked for you! Amee
I did this and my mattress looks great!!! I was really surprised at how well it worked. I read one of the comments on how the 3% hydrogen peroxide won’t fade color, but that’s what I used and it did. I much rather have a cream and white mattress, than a cream and pee colored mattress.
The only thing I did notice is that when it dried the areas I sprayed felt a little hard and like there is residue. Did I spray to much of the mixture and how do I get my mattress to feel soft again?
Hi Ara,
I suggest vacuuming your mattress if you have a hose attachment. That is what I had to do with my mattress. Glad the stain worked, sorry about the coloration issue, but I agree I would rather have a clean mattress. Amee
Hi Amee, do you think this solution would work on my buggy (stroller) upholstery? My daughter had a leaky nappy (diaper, I’m british…but don’t hold that against me lol) and its now pee stained. Its a cream & light grey material. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Nadine,
Hold it against you never I lived in Europe for three years and loved it over there. My hubby and I would love to move back permanently one day.
I think it would work, but make sure you use the 3% and do a small test area first because it might discolor your fabric. I have had people use it on sofas, chairs, rugs, carpets, and mattresses. Hope it works for you and if not can you simply take the cover off and throw it in the wash too?
Amee
Hi Amee, thank you for a super quick reply! I’m going to attempt to take off the cover tomorrow & pop it in the machine; failing that I’ll try the 3% route. Either way I will definately be trying this on our mattress for those times my daughter has wriggled away after a nappy change and peed freely while laughing her little head off! I’ll post back about the buggy in case it does work. Thanks again from your newest fan across the pond! Love your page by the way.
Hi Nadine,
You are welcome! Nice to meet you too and yes today I had my baby standing and smiling ear to ear as she peed during a diaper change. Kids gotta love them.
Amee
Hi Amee! I found this on Pinterest, and was so excited to try it on my sons’ mattresses, because we are night training. I made up the solution, and after a few sprays, found that the sprayer wouldn’t spray out anymore, so I switched it with another sprayer, and had the same problem. Do you have any advice for that? My only guess would be that the baking soda clogged the nozzle, but it was pretty well mixed when I started spraying. Help?
Hi Cailyn,
Yes you are not alone for some people the bs clogs the sprayer. Some have squirted it on like with a ketchup bottle. Some have simply poured it on and rub it all over the area with your hands. It still works even that way. Sorry for the issues. Amee
That’s what I ended up doing was pouring it on, and rubbing in around. But it didn’t do much for the smell. Any recommendations?
Hi some people have had to do the recipe a couple of times. Another thing you can do is sprinkle baking soda over spot and leave it over night and then vacuum it up real good.
Amee
Thank you for the recipe. Do you know if this solution also disinfects, or does it just remove the discoloration and smell?
Hi Nicole,
The hydrogen peroxide is a disinfectant and it does remove smell and staining. It does not sterilize a 100% of the live bacteria though. Thanks, Amee
I tried this and it does work. However today I noticed that where I have sprayed it on my mattress, the fabric has deteriorated and the mattress is ruined. The mattress cover is tearing. Just a word the wise. Apparently the baking soda left behind can eat fabrics.
Hi Katrina,
I am sorry to hear your fabric deteriorated you are the only person I know of who has had this issue.
Hugs,
Amee
sounds like you scrubbed your mattress to hard.
Worked like a charm! My stain was not a pee stain but baby formula. Our son gets his morning bottle in our bed between us, and one morning we all fell asleep and the bottle emptied into the mattress. I tried patting with a clean towel as best I could but it left a giant yellow round stain in our pillow top king size mattress. I tried this solution and WOW it nearly disappeared! It left a faint ring where the stain used to be but that was because my spray nozzle clogged up. I used an old windex bottle, might have to use a more powerful sprayer like the ones they sell at home depot. I will definitely go over it again and I know it will completely be gone. Thanks so much!!!
Hi Vanessa,
Yeah glad it works on formula too good to know! I used a garden heavy duty spray bottle from Lowes or Home Depot it worked great and did not clog like so many others have had issues with. You are more than welcome thanks for the tip on the formula.
Hugs,
Amee
I’ve been looking for a way to get rid of urine stains/smell for years, being I have 3 boys. The baby is 3 and of course he has accidents. I was just considering buying another mattress, but decided to google a way to clean the mattress first. This really worked!!!! My spray bottle kept getting clogged so I just sprinkled it on the mattress out of the bottle and with my hands. Overall, it worked for the smell and the stain… Thank you for sharing this.
Victorya
Hi Victorya,
You might want to go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a garden heavy duty spray bottle and try it again. That is what I used and did not have any clogging issues. Glad it worked for you the way you did it! Way cheaper than buying a new mattress.
Amee
Do you think this can be used on carpet stains??
Hi Katie,
I have had people tell me it worked on their carpet and did not color fade it, but I would do a small test area first.
Thanks,
Amee
Just tried this today! I have 3 boys and some funky mattresses! It is still wet, but the stains are completely gone! Just wondering if this is just the peroxide effect removing the coloration…is the stain actually being removed or just covered up? Looks good so far!
Hi Holly,
It is removing the stain by oxidizing it. This solution cleans skunked animals as well and the smells never comes back.
Amee
Amee you just made my day!!! My daughter had a lil accident 3 days in a row I thought for sure my brand new mattress was ruined. Yesterday I tried this and it seemed to make the stains worse. I woke up this morning and went to check how it looked and it looks brand new!!!! Thank you!
Hi Jen,
Yeah so happy another mattress is saved! Thank you for your comment love and I am so glad I made your day.
Hugs,
Amee
So I made the mistake of changing a newborn on the bed and she wet in the middle of the change leaving a stain so I thought I’d try this. Not gonna lie I was a little worried when I got it sprayed on…it just looked like it was making the stain spread. Let it dry with a fan on it for a couple of hours and voila! As white as can be!! Now I gotta do the whole mattress so it will match…lol thanks for this!!
Hi Stana,
I am glad it worked for you and not to worry you are not alone in changing a baby and having them love the freeness and air.
Amee
I cannot believe this worked. My daughter had several accidents on my very expensive German mattresses and I was convinced we would have to buy new ones because they were ruined…my husband did not think it would work either and made me spray my mattress first. Twenty minutes later, poof! The pee stains were out. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Hi Katie,
I know exactly how you felt I did not think it would work either. Yeah for saved expensive mattresses.
Hugs,
Amee
Thank you! My son is a diabetic and when his sugar gets out of control he has night wetting problems. This is a lifesaver for me and him. Not only has he wet his bed but and done the same to mine. I try and get stuff out right away, but will try this this weekend and see if the stain will come out. Thank you again,
April
Hi April,
I hope this works for you and will help your mattresses and your son.
Hugs,
Amee
I awoke this morning to find that my two year old niece peed in the bed…
I assumed the mattress pad would work, but it didn’t and I was angry at myself for not putting an extra pad down.
When I found this recipe I was excited. I used it and not only did the stain come out the odor is gone!!!
Thank you very much Amee.
Hi Ni,
You are so welcome glad I could save your mattress and get the smell gone too.
Hugs,
Amee
Do you think this would work ok on a foam mattress? I always hesitate to get it wet bc I’m afraid it will mildew… I guess I would want it to soak all the way down though, right? Hmmm…
Hi Jenn,
Yes I do think this would work on a foam mattress and if you do try this and are afraid of mildew I would use a fan on the mattress to help it dry quicker. I would do one recipe solution and then see if you need to do more. Depends on the stain and of course surface, but people have used this with success on furniture, carpet, pets who were skunked, car seat covers you name it.
Amee
I tried this and so you know I tried 3 different spray bottles and all of them plugged up and I couldn’t get anything out of them. What a problem.
Hi Jackie,
I am sorry to hear you had such trouble with three different spray bottles. I never had that experience any time I have used this on my mattresses. Some people have used squirt bottles like ketchup would be in and then some sprinkled it on and used their hands to mix it in. It has to be done a couple of times if done this way, but people still have said it works. Sorry for the issues.
Amee
Thank you so much, this worked like a charm on OLD dog and cat stains on our mattress. I’ve tried everything to get it out in the past, but it was never enough to keep them from coming back to the same places. My husband has the sensitive nose and he couldn’t smell ANYTHING after it dried. For good measure I sprinkled a little homemade “mattress powder” on the area before we made the bed. (baking soda and cornstarch plus a few drops if lavender oil in an old powder bottle) No more smell. Thanks again!
Hi Shannon,
Yeah glad it worked on you and thank you for the tip about the lavender oil I can smell it from here.
Hugs,
Amee
So i need to mix all everything ( liquid , baking soda and soap)when i spray do i grub or leave it alone ….im trying this out n is not working….loco4e@yahoo.com
Hi Jose,
Happy Thanksgiving! Yes mix it all in a spray bottle and then spray it on the stain. You do not need to scrub just leave it alone, you may need to do the process a couple times depending on the stain, how old it is, and also if people were on medicines it can also effect how well it works as well.
Thanks,
Amee
Another happy customer, thank you! And by the way, it really does work on pet stains. I have a barfer, and it got the stains out of the carpet!
Hi Carrie,
Yeah glad it worked for you and on your carpet that is a plus!
Hugs,
Amee
Wow….I was doubtful, but this worked like a charm! Thank you so much for posting~
Best.
Alicia
Hi Alicia,
I know what you mean, but so glad it worked for you!
Hugs,
Amee
I came across your blog post on Pinterest and pinned it even though my kids are all past that bed wetting stage. Two days later our cat, decided to wake me up by peeing on our bed (I think he was mad at us because we just got a new dog.) Nothing worse than cat pee…ugh! But I mixed up a batch of your solution in a spray bottle and got ready to spray away – then my spray bottle broke. Ugh…again. I ended up just pouring it out and spreading it around with my hand – what else do you do?! I even soaked a few old stains while I was at it. I shut my bedroom door and ignored it for the rest of the day. After supper I went back up to check on it’s progress – totally thrilled!!! No stains – new or old – and NO CAT URINE ODOR!!!! My mattress looks brand new and smells fresh. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this!! On laundry day, I am doing all of the kids’ mattresses and can’t wait!
Hi Dawn,
Oh sorry to hear about the cat yep sounds like your cats wanted to show you who was pissed (no pun intended). I am so glad it worked on cat pee because their urine is HORRIBLE – thank you for the feedback. <3
Amee
This really worked. It was easy and cheap to use. But I used a sponge instead of the sprayer… It clogged up. Thanks
Hi Paul,
Glad it worked for you sorry about the clogged sprayer.
Amee
Thanks for the info. Worked like a charm on soy sauce that had been spilled on a mattress. Don’t ask. I downsized the ingredients as the spill was not that bad. And I used an old toothbrush (I didn’t have a spray bottle). Can’t even tell it was ever there. Cheers!
Hi Glenn,
You gave me a chuckle about the “don’t ask” I am sure it is a good story. lol. Glad it worked for you on soy sauce.
Amee
where can i find a spray bottle with a large enough “straw” thing? ive tried 2-3 bottles and the straw that sucks the mixture up always gets clogged and nothing will come out so i end up having to just kinda dump it on which leave it more wet than desired. (and i use this on anything white that im cleaning btw)
thank you!!!
Hi Amanda,
The sprayer I have pictured and used to clean our mattress was from the garden section of Lowes or Home Depot. It is a heavy duty sprayer and I have never had an issue with it clogging.
Amee
ok ill check there! thank you!!
Your welcome Happy Holidays!
Amee:
I had tried “Urine Gone” on a mattress urine stain however only noticed an approximate 75% removal of the stain. The mattress is white therefore the remaining stain was still unsightly. I happened upon your posting regarding the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/hand dishsoap removal suggestion. Although a bit skeptical, I decided to give it a try. It worked like a champ! The stain is completely removed. Thanks for the tip!
Bob
Hi Bob,
Glad it worked for you and I was skeptical too.
Amee
I tried this on my 3,000$ mattress, and it ended up making holes in it where I had applied this mixture…
Hi Amy,
I am sorry to hear that you had stains on your expensive mattress and the formula did not work.
Amee
I had this issue with my youngest and for the stuffed animals I used the laundry soap that we get for my husbands clothes during hunting season I can’t remember the name but you can buy it in the sporting section at wal Mary or any sporting goods store
Hi Christine,
Hmmm I will have to go and check it out myself thanks for the tip.
Amee
Hi Amee, do you know whether this will deep clean the mattress? We had a cat at our old apartment who just happened to get himself locked in our room and out of anger peed on our mattress it was days before we realized this but it had sunk down into the mattress. I was able to lift the stain with pet stain stuff but it didn’t fully remove the stain from the mattress.
Hi Kayla,
I am not sure, but it totally cleared up my stain and has worked with other people who had pets pee on their bed – even really old stains. I guess it will not hurt to try it and see.
Amee
It smells really bad after.Just as a warning
Hi Pheobe,
Sorry to hear it smells bad even after – you might try and do it one more time as depending on the stain it does not get all of it out the first try.
Hugs,
Amee
I cant thank you enough! I apparentlly forgot to put my daughters washable chuck and disposable cuck under her last night and to my dismay she soaked through to her matress as soon as i get her out i am going to try this~ MY daughter is Tube fed at night so I am going to keep these ingredients handy!
Hi Stacy,
Glad I could help and you are welcome!
Amee
Thank you for this tip. I have a 4-y.o. who occasionally has nighttime accidents–sometimes more than once a night which means his leak-proof mattress pad is already in the wash when the second one happens. This mixture has done a good job taking out the stain and reducing the odor (which was quite strong). I will use it once more to see if that gets the odor out completely, but had to let you know how grateful I am for your blog and that I don’t have to buy a new mattress!
Hi Annie,
Glad I saved you from having to buy a new mattress.
Amee
Can anyone give me a timeline for how long it will take to dry and when the smell disappears? I sprayed the solution on the stain (it is a few weeks old). The yellow color is gone, but it smells awful! Of course, the mattress is still wet. Will the smell dissipate once it dries? I have a fan blowing on it to help. Thanks!
Hi Lindsay,
You need to wait until it dries and if the smell is still there you will have to redo the cleaning solution another time. Hope it gets the smell out for you too!
Amee
[...] inspired-housewife.com via Tosha on [...]
I have a 4 & 6 year old who still have accidents. I am interested in trying your method but I cant find anywhere that tells me what to do after I make your solution. Do I just spray it on and leave it alone or do I spray it, scrub it and then dry it? Do I spray it on and blot it dry? I have a very expensive bed that they are sleeping on and I would hate to replace it. Thank you I really appreciate it.
Hi David,
All you do is spray it on and let it dry. If there is a white film left from the baking soda you simply vacuum it up or wipe it off with a damp cloth. It is pretty simple and it works really well.
Happy New Year,
Amee
What else would I be doing on New Years Day besides looking for a way to remove pee stains? lol I have a fairly new mattress and a little one had an accident. Last night I started looking and happily found you! :0) I put the mixture together about 15 minutes ago and have my fingers crossed…. well, thank you Amee! It looks pretty darn good! I didn’t have a spray bottle so I had to use a squeeze bottle; probably not ideal, but my next trip to the dollar store will include all these ingredients to make sure I am well prepared! Thank you so much for your advice. I just found you last night & couldn’t be happier! Now if you can just tell me how to keep a cat out of an artificial christmas tree – I’d be in heaven!
anne
Hi Anne,
Well I am so happy you found me and your mattress is cleaner! As for the cat and the tree I have no suggestions my little ones think food, shoes, and toys are made to be thrown full force into our Christmas tree. With kids you can some what reason, but cats well . . . they never learn.
PS Happy New Year!
Amee
wow, I was so bumbed up when my baby peed on my mattress until I stumbled upon this info, I still can’t believe it worked. thanks a bunch.
Yeah so happy it worked for you and I totally understand being bummed. Amee
Do you just spray it on? Or do you rub it/scrub it at all? I don’t see that in the directions. Thank You!!
Hi Meig,
You spray it on and leave it. If there is still a residue you could use a damp cloth to rub the residue off the mattress or vacuum it up. It is that simple and effective.
Thanks,
Amee
I have a black suede couch, so obviously there are no stains but I can’t seem to get the cat pee smell out, do you think this would work for the odor? Would it stain?
Hi Karen,
You could try it without the peroxide because not sure if it would change the color of your couch, but you could test an area of your couch to see if it would effect the color.
I have had people tell me it works really well on animal accidents so I would think it would get the smell out.
Color test first and if it does not fade I say go for it.
Hugs,
Amee
Unfortunately, this did not work for me at all and I am wondering if I did something wrong. I used a spray bottle, and when it didn’t work the first time, I poured some of a new batch of the solution directly on an area of the stain to see if more saturation would help and it did not. My peroxide was new but the baking soda may have been around for a while – could that have been part of the problem? Would it help to use more dish soap? I really want to get these stains out and am at a loss. Thank you for any additional suggestions you may have.
Hi Jennifer,
If your baking soda is old it will not be effective from what others have told me. You do not need more dish soap it is the fact your baking soda is old.
Thanks, Amee
Amazing! Stain has been there for years and it came right out. Thank you!
Hi Amanda,
So happy it works on a really old stain. Thans for feedback! Amee
That solution also works great for when your pet get sprayed by skunks!
Hi Shelby,
I have heard that from many people! Thankfully never had to use it for that purpose, but thank you for the reminder! Amee
I am SO happy that this worked! You saved my $5000 mattress
It clogged so I just applied with a washcloth- worked amazingly!!
Even the old stains!
Hi Jennifer, Yeah for saved mattresses I know they are expensive which is why when my son peed on ours I was desperate to figure a way to save it. So glad it helped you too.
Amee
Holy wow you paid $5000 for a mattress????
Hi! I have been trying this for the past couple of months and yes, the stain definitely disappears right in front of your eyes! Amazing!!! Here’s my problem though. It ALWAYS comes back. How can I make it so this doesn’t happen? (And no, it’s not because my daughter keeps peeing on the bed).
. Thank you!
Hi Chrissy,
Well I am not sure what to tell you as no one has ever stated this before and the stains I have used it on never return. Might have to do with a number of things the material your mattress is made of, how old it is, what was in the urine (meds, foods, etc) I am sorry have no suggestions
Thankyou so much for this. I had tried all sorts before this with no results. I found this on Pinterest and have just used the solution and it has worked so well. No more nasty stains x
Hi Charlotte,
Yeah glad you found me via Pinterest and it worked for you too.
Hugs,
Amee
Hello Amee,
I’m sorry if you’ve been asked this before.. I tried to read through all the comments, but there are just too many! I’m just wondering if you use the entire batch of solution on a decent sized stain (say about 1 x 2 feet)? How saturated did you make it? Thanks so much,
Mandy
Hi Mandy,
I used my entire batch on my stain, but it was quite a big area. If you get your stain fully covered and still have stuff left over just remember it will fizz out of the bottle.
Amee
My husband and I last night were all “whats that smell?” turns out one of our cats was peeing in her cat bed, so much that it soaked through to the stone tile in front of the fire place. Threw the bed out but there were stains on the tile ewwwww!!! Nothing I was using worked, I tried this and it is working! Will try on the mattress next
Hi Melissa,
Glad it is working for yeah.
Amee
Hello Amee!
My son had an accident. I tried this formula and it looks like the original area is cleaning up perfectly! The only problem I’m having is that it looks like the ‘yellow’ ring is spreading outwards. Do you know how I can get rid of that or do I just need more applications?
Thanks,
Alice
Hi Alice,
You probably need to do the application one more time and then I would vacuum the mattress or wipe down once dry with damp cloth.
Thanks,
Amee
Thank you so much for finding this solution!! 2 of my daughters over the past year have had a combined 4 accidents in my bed of course. I tried everything even steam cleaning and nothing worked. This was amazing. I did buy everything new (baking soda & peroxide) to make sure they would be fully potent. I will pass this formula on to all my mommy friends. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
Hi Meghann,
You are so welcome I had no clue how many people my post would help and I have used this several times with great success. Thanks for passing it along and have a great day.
Amee
I was actually looking for a formula/spit up stain remover when I came across your page. My LO is on a really smelly/oily formula due to allergies and allergic colitis. Nothing I tried before worked for the smell or stains. This did the trick! Thanks for sharing!!!
Hi Bri,
You are welcome glad it worked!
Amee
Tried it last night on my 92 yr old Moms mattress. This morning it appeared to be almost gone. I redid it and yellow reappeared so not sure if it just works to make it appear to be gone or if it just needed another treatment. Trying it on my sons mattress now.
Hi JoJo,
Never heard of this problem I would try another treatment, but if your grandmother takes any kind of prescribed medications that might alter the urine stains as well.
Amee
Thank you… 2nd treatment did the trick. Ot even worked on set it stains on my sons mattress thats been stored for 2 years.
Yeah glad that did the trick! Amee
Wow this definitely works on pet stains! I have 4 ferrets and my oldest fuzz butt has problems with his back legs and doesn’t always hit the puppy pad in the corner which is on carpet. I used this yesterday and I was amazed. I sprayed this on the stain and within 2 or 3 minutes it was gone. I didn’t even have to get down on all fours and scrub. Thank you for sharing this.
Yeah glad it worked for you Paula! You are more than welcome! Amee
Did anyone find it clogged the spray bottle? I tried 3 different ones before I ended up wiping it on with a microfibre cloth. Appears to have worked though! Thanks!
Hi Chantelle,
Yes lots of people have issues with this mixture clogging, but I never have. Some people have had success using Fabreze and Windex spray bottles. Amee
This was amazing!! My 2-year old got a “big boy bed” for Christmas and leaked out his diaper one night. I was so upset since we hadn’t put a plastic mattress cover on it yet (thought we were safe with him wearing a diaper at night). I pinned this a few months ago and boy am I glad!! Tried it out this morning and it worked wonderful!! No stains here! I even tried it on a couple pillows with really bad slobber stains and those look brand new too!
Hi Allison,
Yeah glad it worked for you as for the pillows I throw mine in the washer every few months.
Amee
Do you think it would work for years old dried in stains? When my brother was house breaking his dog he never once cleaned up after her properly and as a result we have quite a huge spot where the dog continues to go to this day. I’ve tried everything I can think of in the last few years to get the smell out of the carpet and everything has helped, but nothing has gotten rid of it. I will have to give this a try tomorrow.
Hi Jadalynn,
I have had people tell me they used this mixture on pet stains and it worked. If the carpet is already ruined there it is not going to hurt it to try. Hope it works for you. Amee
does this work on pillow top mattresses too?
sorry just seen the comments above but for the clogged bottles I used an old febreze one and it worked well with no clogging
Thank you Erica good to know on the old Febreze bottle working for you because some people have issues and some do not with the clogging.
Amee
Yep works great on our own pillow top!
Just one question before I try, do I need to scrub with something after I spray the mixture on, or just let it soak there until dry? Thanks!
Hi Danielle,
Amee
Nope just spray it on and let it dry. That is it.
Awesome!!!! Thank you thank you thank you. It took an old pee stain out within seconds with very little elbow grease required. I hated seeing it everytime we changed our daughter’s bed. Thank you again. <3
Hi Kristine,
Yeah glad it worked for you.
Amee
Tried it on a 2 yr old peed-stained mattress and the stuff really works. Appreciate you sharing this great information to all!
You are more than welcome so glad I even thought to blog about it!
Amee
Thank you. My epilepsy doesn’t leave nice trademarks.
Hi Paulette,
Sorry you have epilepsy, but thankful this worked for you. Amee
It bloody work ….and brilliantly gone are the stains from my sons mishaps when he is over tired and had too much juice
xx i luv u
Hi JO JO,
Yeah glad you found my post and it worked. Hugs! Amee
I have used this very recipe to treat my dogs after a run in with the neighborhood skunk. Worked like a charm. I am going to mix up a batch now to try cleaning a mattress. Thank you for the suggestion
Hey Kim,
You are welcome I am so happy to know it works on skunked animals as well.
Amee
Thanks a bunch!! It worked like a charm!!! Your are def a life saver!!!!
Hi Tara,
Yeah glad it worked for you – not sure I am a live saver, but THANK YOU anyways. Hugs, Amee
Hi
I wish i knew this before because my daugther wet her bed until she was 8,but i am telling her now because her 7year old son is wetting his bed. Lucky for her it will be easier from now on,thank you
Hi Elens,
Well I am so thankful my son’s accident has helped so many and at least like you said you can now help your daughter.
Amee
[...] you have potty training kids like I do, urine stains in mattresses can sometimes be a problem. Here is a great solution for removing the stains and smells using hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish [...]
I had a family member soil our spare bedroom mattress REALLLLLLLY bad (feces and urine) and I tried different things for a week and nothing worked. Found this site and I literally watched it disappear!!! Thank you so much!! Can’t thank you enough!!
Hi Shelly,
Oh boy #1 and #2 so sorry, but thankful the recipe worked for you. You are more than welcome!
Amee
I have a four year old who sleeps in pull-ups and sometimes takes naps and forgets to put a diaper on…his mattress is only a few months old and its black so there are no visible pee stains…but the smell overwhelms the room and I’ve tried several things and nothing helps…I’m going to try this…keeping my fingers crossed!
Hey Yessy,
No finger crossing needed this recipe rocks and works great.
Amee
I just tried your recipe! It seems to be working! My nephew stayed the night and de died to also ‘leave his mark’ on my daughters mattress.
I am also following your autism board as my son has autism and your pins look great. Thank you for sharing your wisdom! My wallet thanks you too!
Hi Missy,
Sorry about the marking, but glad the recipe is working for you. Thanks I hope my board helps people because it is stuff that I have found helpful.
Amee
I am trying this today! On my way out to the grocery store to pick up some peroxide now! My little guy is almost 6, but still has accidents every few months. He had one last night, and I realized this morning how bad his mattress smells (it may be the heightened sense of smell during pregnancy??). My only concern (and it’s not a huge deal, because twin mattresses are pretty cheap, and he really needs a new one anyway) is that his mattress is about 30 years old, and I’m worried the peroxide may eat through the material. If it does, oh well! I guess that just means he gets a new mattress today!
I will come back and let you know how it works!
Hoping this worked great for you!
Amee
It did work!!!! I guess the mattress used to be white (at some point)! LOL It doesn’t bother me that one spot is now white and the rest is a yellowish-tan color from age. It’s always covered with sheets anyway!
Thanks for this solution! Much appreciated!!
Hi Brittini,
Yeah so glad part of your mattress is white again lol. Hugs, Amee
Thank you so much! This stuff is awesome. My mattress wasn’t even 6 months old yet. Now it’s good as new again.
Yeah
hey, this did not work for me…maybe I am doing it wrong?
Mixed everything in a cup, poured it in the spray bottle and sprayed the stains….it seemed to work a tiny bit at first, but now the stains are still there..
Hi Kate,
I mixed everything in the spray bottle itself, but make sure your hydrogen peroxide and baking soda is not expired or else it seems not to work.
Amee
You are a life saver!! I thought my mattress was going to be on the curb!
Hi Christin,
Your welcome not sure I am a life saver, but mattresses are expensive so I know I have saved people a LOT of money. Hugs, Amee
My mother in law passed down her mattress to me and my husband when she moved out about 2 years ago. To this day we have tried everything to get all the pee stains out of the mattress and nothing has worked. Has anyone tried this on any old set in pet urine stains? Like I said she passed it down to us 2 years ago and all of these stains are older than that, since we haven’t had cats since before she moved. So im wondering if this solution would work on the stains that have set in, or atleast take off the top layer of it.
Hi Ashley,
I have had people tell me this solution took out decade old puke stains from their college days so I would assume it will work on any stains old or new.
Amee
Awesome, thank you Amee. I will be using this solution this weekend on our bed and even some spots on our carpet. In a rental with carpet and potty training, not a good combo. Hoping this will be a cheap hold on renting a machine for a deep cleaning!
Hi Ashley,
Hope it worked for you and be careful on your carpet make sure to test a small area first.
Amee
What a great idea! The peroxide lifts and removes the stain and the baking soda removes the urine odor. Dish soap helps it to smell fresh and clean. I’ve used peroxide for years for blood stains and ink stains, but never thought to use it for urine! Thanks!!!
Hi Sharon,
You are welcome yeah it is amazing what these three little ingredients can do. Fighting power I call them.
Amee
My son had an accident 2 nights ago and the mattress is only 2 months old. I was really heartbroken. I read about this method and decided to try it since I had nothing to lose.
And it worked! Thank you!!! The most important thing is that the smell is gone, and the stain is so faded you have to really take a good look to find it.
THANK YOU AGAIN! I will recommend this cleaning method.
Hi Cari,
Glad it worked and for the stain you might have to do it a second time and the stain should totally disappear.
Amee
Hello Amee! I’m so glad I found this, my husbands 8 and 9 year old brother and sister spend the night often and still wet the bed .Im very excited to try this out. would this also work with apple juice and other mattress stains?
Hi Linda,
This solution works on pretty much all stains pet, food, blood, vomit, and urine. Glad you found me too.
I have heard a lot of people saying they used this mixture on their dog to remove skunk spray. This surprised me since peroxide stings and turns your skin a white color. Wouldn’t this harm your dog? I had to use gloves when using this solution to clean my mattress, which seems to be working by the way:) I just tried this yesterday. The stains are old, so I will be doing another application, but I am so excited that I don’t have to buy another mattress. Thank you for the idea.
Hi Mary,
So happy you found me and your mattress was saved. Thanks, Amee
This made a baking soda film that does not vacuum up!
Hi Amy,
Take a wet cloth and wipe over it and then revacuum. There will be a water mark area left, but better than a urine stain. Amee

Thank you so much for this! My step-daughter is a frequent bed wetter and her urine is VERY strong smelling, I had tried everything and the smell would not go away. I started to feel bad for her and for my other step-daughter who shares the bedroom. I put this on once and WOW at the difference.. the smell is gone and almost no stain! I am going to put on one more round and see if it finishes it off. Thank you so much! I will keep this handy.
Hi Stephanie,
You are so welcome I love to hear stories like yours. Glad the smell is gone because I know my son’s accident was horrible. Thanks for the feedback! Amee
Hi Amee
Wow, I cannot believe I didn’t stumble across this remedy sooner! The years of stress it would have saved me (and maybe a mattress or two). In any case, thank you. I initially sprinkled just baking soda on a light stain on the mattress, and let it sit for about 6 or so hours. I was hoping for at least an odor removal. It did nothing. So, out of desperation, I googled and found this remedy. Within 10 minutes, the stain disappeared, the odor was gone, and I was raving about it for hours.
So I have a question. I am using this as a pre-treatment on urine-soiled linens/clothes. So far, it’s working great. I use a homemade laundry detergent (borax, super washing soda, castille bar soap; white vinegar as softener). I have decided that I should probably completely wash out the pre-pre-treatment ingredients, before putting laundry into the washer (using HE front loading), because I do not want a Science Experiment in my washer.
Do you know, though, if this step is necessary? Meaning, is it ok for my laundry detergent to interact with baking soda and peroxide? I think no, but thought I’d see if you or any of your readers know for sure.
Thanks again,
Grace
Hi Grace,
With an HE front loading the only issue I would worry about is some machines if you use a homemade laundry detergent it voids the warranty of your machine. As for the laundry I believe with all the water you would have with your washer it would be fine. I am no scientist so maybe test it on something you do not love. Amee
Hi , do you just spray or you have to rub it as well? THX!!
Hi Emma,
Just spray on and let it do its’ thing!
Amee
Any ideas for getting chapstick out of a matress? My dog got into my purse and snatched my red tinted chapstick and then decided.that the best possible place to eat . The chapstick was similarly on my brand new guest bedroom mattresss. It’s huge and terrible looking and smack in the middle of the bed. Any ideas?
Hi Julie,
This mixture gets out blood, it gets out puke, pee, poop, so I would try it on the stains. If that does not work I am not sure what else to tell you I hope you figure it out. Thanks, Amee
Thank you so much. I have a brand new bed and of course the lil one peed on it your reciepe was very helpful thank you again
Hi Serena,
You are welcome glad it worked. Hugs, Amee
Hello,
I made the solution but the baking soda didn’t dissolve very well and it wouldn’t spray through the spray bottle. So I just splashed some of the solution with my hand on the pee stain. Is there something I did wrong when making the solution? Will the baking soda even dissolve in this mixture?
Hi Roro,
If the baking soda is expired I have heard people say they have issues with it. Make sure you have new baking soda and it should dissolve without issue. Make sure your spray bottle does not have a little plastic piece on the bottom because it can hinder and clog the bottle too. I would retry because it should work for you. Sorry for the issues. Amee
I had the same issue with my baking soda clogging up the bottle. The expiration date says 3/2014, so not expired yet, but I have had it a while. I just poured the solution onto a washcloth/rag and dabbed it on, making sure the mattress got nice and wet. It seems to be working so far, though it’s not dry yet. The stains are much less visible than they were when I started. Thank you so much for posting this! I can’t wait to try it on our pet stains!
Hi Melissa,
The baking soda I used was brand new and never opened, but I know readers have told me if they used old and expired baking soda it did not work. As for clogging a lot of people have had the issue and I never have. The bottle i use has a pretty good size straw with it so I think that might help. Others have used old ketchup bottles and squirted it on. The way you do it works too, but you might have to do it a couple of times.
Amee
Seen this on pinterest and just tried it. Worked like magic!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Hi Haley,
Glad you found me via Pinterest and so happy it worked for you. Yeah! Amee
I just wanted to know how long would it take for the solution to Dry I haven’t tried it yet But the only thing I do not have is a funnel can it be used without a funnel
Hi Dee,
Amee
Probably at least three hours or more depends on the size of your stain and how much solution you use. I used a funnel only because it made less of a mess, but you do not need to use one at all. You can also put a fan on it after you are done for fast drying.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. This worked! It truly did!!! My daughters matteress was stained pretty bad due to a few accidents she had. I needed to clean it today and decided to search online on some advice… after reading a few that, I decided to try this on out… the rest asked for borax and other things I did not have on hand or felt that wouldnt work… I never thought to use hydrogen proioxide and man this worked so well it looks like new! I will go over it with my mini cleaner and let it dry and we practially have a new mattress!!!
THANK YOU
Hi Nicole,
Glad it looks like new and your are welcome.
Amee
Is spraying it o important? In other words, can I just put it on with a cloth or something? I don’t have a spray bottle, and our bed is torn apart already : )
Hi Laura,
No you do not have to use a spray bottle, but it helps get the area evenly. Doing it the way you will might mean you have to do the cleaning a couple different times. You can also use a skirt bottle from an old ketchup bottle that works too.
Amee
Has anyone tried this on a stain that is a day or 2 old???
Hi Jennifer,
Amee
People have used this on stains over a decade old with huge success.
Do you have to scrub it into to the stain or anything? Or do you just leave it alone?
Hi Tasha,
I sprayed and left it to do its magic. I did not scrub it at all just wiped up any excess residue left from baking soda.
Amee
Hi Amee,
I love you blog and thanks for all the wonderful tips and tricks.
I have read through quite a few comments and see that people have asked you for lots of other cleaning tips. It seems that you always have a brilliant answer, so my question is how do I get my husband to use any of these tips by himself with out yelling for me to come help.
Hi Tracy,
That is a tough one how to get a husband to do the cleaning and with new and different ways. I would first off clean with him using the new techniques, maybe make a binder for him to go off of, or whip up a sexy outfit for later in the night to thank him.
Amee
Works amazing, thank you so much! I thought my mattress was ruined and now I will only be using this for the messes. Used it on cat urine and it was lifted away!
Hi Kathryn,
Yeah thanks so much for the feedback! Amee
I just have to say, THANK YOU!
My son was ill, and last night he climbed into my bed and vomited and urinated on my mattress. I was in tears when morning came and I saw the full extent of the damage.
A google search led me here and I honestly could not be more thankful. I will be passing this information along!
Hi Stephanie,
So sorry to hear about your little one being sick, but glad Google connected us. Thanks for passing along the post.
Amee
I used this recipe first on my less-than-one-year old mattress, then on a floor rug, and then on my mother’s less-than-six-months old mattress after my three-year old had accidents on all three. We have waterproof mattress covers on all beds in the house, but sometimes you do have to take those covers off (e.g. to wash them), and that seems to be the precise moment your child always waits for to pee in the bed! Since we have pillowtop mattresses, I did two rounds of the spray: the first to really saturate the mattress then rub it in a little with a towel so that it hopefully penetrates and reaches as much urine as possible. I let that dry, then did another spraying just across the surface and let that one work by itself (no rubbing). (I also followed up with a little Febreze because I like the fresh smell.) It worked like a charm! Thank you very much for sharing this!
You are welcome! Amee
Thank you soooo much!!!! The solution worked but I just had one problem, getting the solution out of the bottle. It seemed the solution was too thick. I unscrewed the bottle and poured the solution right out of the bottle. It worked perfectly. Thanks again
Hi Adriana,
I have found if the straw is too small it will clog you have to have a big straw for the mixture to not clog. Glad it worked. Amee
I noticed that where the stain was is more “white” than the rest of the mattress. My mattress is a “tan” color. Will this make a white spot on my tan mattress??? Does it have a “bleaching” effect?
Yes Sheila it does have a bleaching affect, but better to have the urine gone.
Amee
Hi there! I was referred here by a friend. We both have little boys who have occasionally accidents. Ive been using a Norwex product which does a great job at neutralizing the urine and the odor but did nothing for the ring that was left behind. I used your method on older stains and was so pleasantly surprised to see that it worked! It removed older “set in” stains with no problem. I still keep the Norwex spray around but this is now my go to cleaning method after a nighttime accident!
Hi Emily,
I am so glad it worked for you!
Amee
Along with stain, does it pull the smell out as well?
Hi Amy,
Sorry I have been moving to a new city. Yes it works on both stains and smells.
Amee
Hey Amee,
This method worked out great on my mattress so thank you very much! But I ran into another issue, I accidentally got some of the solution on some jeans and it stained them. I tried washing them but the stain was still there. Do you know if there’s any way I could fix this or at least make the stain on my jeans less noticeable?
Hi John,
Not sure the color of your jeans, but if a dark blue you could always get some dye from Walmart or a craft store and stain that area. Sorry about the pants. Amee
I came across this link on Tuesday when I was searching on how to remove mattress stains. I finally bought a brand new mattress/box spring after nearly four decades (37 years) of sleeping on the same mattress. The new set was delivered 2/4. Sometime in February I took in a stray cat who ended up being sequestered upstairs as I have other cats in the house. She kept getting fatter and fatter and finally had seven (!) kittens 3/19. The kittens were scampering about recently and had gotten in my bedroom (the door was shut but easily pops open). Well, the little buggers managed to climb on my bed and one or two left a little present–little poops. When I removed the bedding I was dismayed to find that some liquid had leached from one of the little piles all the way through the top sheet, bottom sheet, mattress cover and onto my brand new mattress! There was a light tan stain that was about 3″ X 5″ at it’s widest/longest points.
When I read the recipe on this website, I was in some disbelief about how three little ingredients could remove a urine stain. But I had the stuff on hand, the reviews were positive, and I decided to give it a whirl. So, last night I mixed the stuff up, sprayed it on my mattress, and when I checked this a.m., the stain wasn’t visible! Amazing! I have a couple cat barf stains on my upholstered dining room chairs that I plan to use this recipe on.
Hi Barbara,
Glad it worked on your new mattress, but if you do get around to using it on your upholstery please test a spot before you do for color fading. Amee
does this work on a pillow top mattress
Hi Troy,
Sorry for the delay been in the middle of a move. Yes it does work on pillow top mattresses because our king is a pillow top and we have had to use the solution on it too. Thanks, Amee
I’m going to try this, I am super excited. My brother and sis-in-law are getting rid of a one year old 2000$ mattress because it has a urine stain on it, now I’m going to take it and use this cleaning method and hopefully have myself am almost new expensive mattress for free!!
Hi Irma,
I hope it works for you because the mattress is still good otherwise.
Amee
Hi,
I am a grandma and I have a mattress that is almost new but with a big pee stain [my grandkids are still small and sometimes have accidents - and it did happen sometime ago when I did not have a plastic cover on it]. I was trying to get the stain off with a mix of white vinegar and water, then at the end with a little liquid soap, but i believe the stain is still there.
I will try your method. But my problem is also: after the stain is gone, how to deal with the idea that the pee got inside the mattress and is doing some damage there, like mold, bed mites, bed bugs…
Do you think that the mix you prescribe for the stain will also work inside the mattress? the mattress I have is not the one with springs, but the other kind with a lot of filling inside.
Thank you.
Ellen
Hi Ellen,
My solution neutralized the urine and clears up the stain and smell. Depending on how much your grandchild peed would probably determine if you needed to use a lot of solution or not to soak your mattress. I do not think it will mold or have bed bugs from urine, but if you are worried after doing the application put a fan on it to help it dry faster. Thanks, Amee
Hi Amee,
I did use the mix of the 3 ingredients on my mattress, I did not use a spray bottle, but I only did wet a washcloth and rub it hard directly on the mattress, so the spot got a little more wet than if I would had used a spray bottle. I left the mattress outside in fresh air and sun for many days – I think today would be the 6th day; the mattress is not yet dry, so I will leave it for more days outside in order to dry. The first day after applying the treatment – the spot seemed to still be there, but after 3 days the spot started to disappear, slowly, gradually – while the mattress was and is still getting dry. Also I did use a drop of a different liquid soap – I used one drop of dishwashing liquid soap. So, your recipie was working for me, thank you so much for your help.
Ellen.
Hi Ellen,
Glad it worked for you, but if you do it again try putting a box fan blowing on your mattress it would help speed up the drying process. You can also use a squirt bottle as well like a ketchup bottle for next time.
Amee
Do you know if this would work on a bowel stain?
Hello Crytel,
Yes it should work on a bowel stain too. Amee
I’ve recently just used plain vinegar in a spray bottle, covering the entire stain with it. Then I sprinkled baking soda liberally on top of it, then waited for the baking soda to soak up the vinegar. A couple hours later, I vacuumed up the baking soda, and there is no urine smell or discoloration! YAY!!!!
Hi Denise,
Glad you got your stain out!
Amee
After scrubbing to no avail i searched and found your remedy. Worked in minutes. No scrubbing. Wow. Thank-you
Hey Carmen,
Yeah glad you found me and it worked!
Amee
Thank you!! Not only did it work on the urine stains, but I sprayed some on an ink stain while I was at it, and it came out!!
Thanks again for taking the time to post
Hi Lucy,
Glad it worked and never heard it working on ink I am glad to know this.
Amee
Do you know if it works on older stains? My son has been having accidents on our bed that are maybe a week old. I am really wanting to try this! Sometimes the easier methods and the ones we do not easily think of work the best!
Hi Rachael,
I know that this has worked on a ten year old stain from one reader so I am sure it will work on a week old stain.
Amee
Hello! Thank you for this! I used this mixture on memory foam and it worked perfectly! I did not take before and afters because I really didn’t believe it would work! I mixed the baking soda, peroxide and drop of soap and sprayed it on the stain. It literally started to disappear, I then rubbed it in lightly with a white wash cloth and directed a fan to the spot to help with drying. Worked so well!! Thank you! I am 2 for 2! I also discovered how to clean mildew off patio cushions. (http://beeinteriors.blogspot.com/2011/09/cleaning-outdoor-cushions.html?showComment=1369051908401#c4863577440116935410) Also worked perfectly!
Hi Michelle,
Glad it worked for you and thank you for the cushion tips!
Amee
Amee! First your blog is awesome! Second, this works so well I cant begin to thank you enough for posting this. Im blown away how effective your treatment worked on our mattress. Thank you, thank you! Best!
This worked great like new great information and website keep it up!!
Thanks Brain!
Amee
Will this work on a couch without bleaching the color? I have a brand new chocolate brown couch & my puppy jumped on the couch and peed on it.
Hi Michele,
I would test a small area first to see, but I have had many people who used it on carpet without bleaching. Sorry about the puppy. Amee
Does it help with smell as well?
Hi Momma of 5,
Yes it does!
Amee
Oh my gosh this was a lifesaver!! Thank you thank you thank you for sharing this!!
Hey Cat,
You are welcome!
Meow Amee
Thanks for posting this! I really needed it today! I myself, struggle with enuresis. And I hate having to bother my mom, with it all the time. And so i would just like to thank you again. Because now i know a way to take care of stains and not have my mom, worry anymore.
Hi Felicity,
Glad I could help you out in not worrying or bothering your mom!
Amee
Wow – this idea seems too good to be true. Who’d have thought a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and baking soda would work on such a tough stain – great tip!
Thanks Taylor! Amee
This worked on my mattress and I have a stupidly-expensive tempur-pedic. My spoiled son slept with us and leaked out of his pull-up! Thanks!
Hi Melissa,
Glad you were able to get the stain out of the tempur-pedic, but I praise you on spoiling your son . . . accidents happen
Amee
Same basic recipe gets skunk smell off your dog. As with any shampoo on a dog, rinse thoroughly. Dogs will get irritated skin from any soap left on them. It works so well, I occasionally add a little peroxide to the dog shampoo (no it won’t bleach their hair) because it takes out the doggy smell better than anything else I have used. I got this recipe from the vet.
Thanks yep I have heard this works on skunk smell which is great to know.
Single Dad here, This worked really well thank you
My daughter climbed into my nice shiny new mattress last night with her bear, I woke up covered in pee as well as the mattress. I wanted to be irritated at my daughter but alas I found out, it wasn’t her “the bear did it.” ha! I guess next time I shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Thanks for the help Amee.
Hi Chris,
Glad you were able to fix “the bear’s accident,” hoping there are no more accidents by said bear.
Amee
I tried 3 different spray bottles and it didn’t come out of the bottles?! Haha it won’t spray!
Hi Jill,
I am sorry to hear about that, but the sprayer I used had a big straw and nothing on the bottom capping it off. You could also try a skirt bottle like an old ketchup bottle. You could also just spread it around with your hands as some people have done, but the results will not be as good. Sorry for the trouble. Amee
This is NOT working! I really thought it would work. I have a mattress that is 5 years old and our baby slept with us and I had a mattress cover and it went through. The mattress is defective and the company will not give another mattress without the stains gone. i am sooo disappointed.
Hi Shelly,
Hmmm this only occurs if the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda are expired or old. Make sure you use fresh ingredients and try again. Sorry it did not work for you. Hugs, Amee
